Katie Cavuto Boyle, MS, RD, is a Registered Dietitian, chef, and owner of Philly’s Healthy Bites ToGo Market, and will be blogging for Be Well Philly weekly. Each week, her “Market Watch” columns will introduce you to the fresh, seasonal, and good-for-you fare at your local grocery stores and farmers’ markets that week. It will also explain why it’s so good for you, and even include a recipe so you can cook it up that very same day.

Katie grew up outside of Philadelphia. Years of competitive gymnastics sparked her interest in nutrition. She realized early on that she could not be a good dietitian without a better understanding of food. Her quest for culinary knowledge led her to Johnson and Wales University in Providence Rhode Island where she graduated with an AS in Culinary Arts and a BS in Culinary Nutrition. While in school she worked at several local restaurants to improve her culinary skills. Upon graduation she was accepted to Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts were she successfully completed a Masters Degree in Clinical Nutrition and became a Registered Dietitian. Katie holds a certification in Adult Weight Management through the American Dietetic Association and Center for Dietetic Registration. She is the consulting dietitian for the Philadelphia Phillies and Healthy Bites caters the team’s pre-game meals. Katie is a regular contributor on ABC, Fox, NBC and CBS in Philadelphia and surrounding markets as an expert in her field. She writes weekly for “Healthy Eats”, a national nutrition blog on Foodnetwork.com.

Katie’s Healthy Bites, a locally sourced Philly market and café that offers nutrition and culinary services, has been showcased in Women’s Health, Fitness, Newsweek Magazine, Parents Magazine, Daily Candy, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Main Line Today Magazine, the Philadelphia Metro Paper, City Paper, and as “Best of Philly 2009 – Best Meal Delivery Service” in Philadelphia magazine to name a few. She was most recently seen as one of 10 finalists on season 5 of The Next Food Network Star and on Rachel Ray’s National Talk Show.

It is her mission to use her unique skill sets as a dietitian and chef to show others how easy and fun it can be to live a healthy lifestyle. Katie promotes farm to table fare and the use of seasonal, local ingredients. Her philosophy is what she likes to call “Green Cuisine” which is about eating healthy for your body and the planet.

“Our lives are so busy. We need to take time to appreciate our bodies and the food that we eat. It is my goal to make this a little easier.”
