Saxbys’ Low-Cal Pick-Me-Ups

We're loving the coffee shop's line of sugar-free, candy-inspired lattes

True confession time: I try not to overdo it on caffeine—I usually limit myself to a cup of coffee a day—but sometimes, when I’m really dragging, I need a midday pick-me-up.

Last week I discovered Saxbys low-cal latte menu, which includes flavors like Kit Kat, Milky Way, Snickers, and raspberry-mocha—all sugar-free. Let’s just say I was more than a little intrigued.

I tried the a small sugar-free Snickers latte with soy. My concoction clocked in at a measly 101 calories and two fat grams—not bad for a fancy coffee-shop drink. By comparison, most of the non-sugar-free renditions contain twice as many (or more!) calories.

And you know what? It was pretty good. I have to admit, I didn’t get all the Snickers taste—there was only a hint of nuttiness and caramel—but the chocolate-coffee combo was delicious. Since there was a bit of a saccharine aftertaste, I think next time I’ll ask them to go a bit lighter on the flavored syrup.

You can order the drinks with two-percent, nonfat, or soy milk. Most of the small sizes are between 100 and 150 calories. And they’re available iced or hot.

Saxbys has over a dozen area locations. For more information, go here.
