Philly Marathon: Bars Near the Finish Line

If you’re anything like us, you know there’s no reward for 26.2—or 13.1, for that matter—quite like an ice-cold beer. Marathon devotees often swear off the stuff for weeks or months leading up to the event. It dehydrates. It slows recovery. But, God, does it taste good.

So if you’re jonesing for a brew after you cross the finish line, here’s a list of watering holes—and when they open on Sundays—all no more than a half mile from the finish line. You earned it.

Belgian Cafe (601 N. 21st St., 215-235-3500)
Opens at: 11 a.m.
Tip: There’s lots to try here, beer-wise, with 12 brews on draft and over 200 bottles in stock.

The Bishop’s Collar (2349 Fairmount Ave., 215-765-1616)
Opens at: 11 a.m.
Tip: Want waffles with your beer? You’re in luck—brunch is served til 3 on Sundays.

Jack’s Firehouse (2130 Fairmount Ave., 215-232-9000)
Opens at: 11 a.m.
Tip: Draft beers here are from local craft brewers in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

London Grill (2301 Fairmount Ave., 215-978-4545)
Opens at: 11 a.m.
Tip: Sunday brunch includes a make-your-own Bloody Mary bar. There are more than a dozen beers on tap, too.

McCrossen’s Tavern (529 N. 20th St., 215-854-0923)
Opens at: 10:30 a.m.
Tip: $20 gets you a brunch item and unlimited Bloody Mary’s or mimosas. There are also a dozen beers on tap and more than 20 bottled varieties.

Rembrandt’s (741 N. 23rd St., 215-763-2228)
Opens at: 10:30 a.m.
Tip: Don’t miss the terrific burgers here. The turkey burger was named Best of Philly earlier this year.

Urban Saloon (2120 Fairmount Ave., 215-232-5359)
Opens at: 11 a.m.
Tip: If you’re into the whole canned beer thing, they’ve got a few here—plus a decent draft menu.
