Start Your Engines: Broad Street Run Registration Opens Wednesday

General registration for the popular 10-miler opens Wednesday, but Independence Blue Cross members can register tomorrow.

UPDATE, February 14th at 9:20 a.m.: The early-bird registration link for IBX members is now live. It’s limited to 3,000 slots. Go here to register.

I can’t believe it’s time to think about the Broad Street Run already. If you haven’t made up your mind yet about whether you want to join 30,000 runners for the annual 10-mile slog from Central High School to the Navy Yard, you’d better decide fast: Registration opens on Wednesday.

Last year, the race sold out in just over four days, setting a PR for Broad Street registration. If my Facebook feed is any indication—am I the only one who feels like everyone and their mother is distance running these days?—I’m guessing it’ll sell out even faster this year.

The place to register on Wednesday is Broadstreetrun.com. New to the process this year is a bib-transfer program, which will allow registered participants to give their bib to someone else in the event they can no longer participate come race day on May 6th. So in other words, you can totally sign up, then cop out later. Win-win?

Also new this year: early registration for Independence Blue Cross members. A friend, who’s an IBX member, forwarded me an email she received this morning inviting her to participate in early registration beginning tomorrow, February 14th, at 10 a.m. By the sound of it, there are a limited number of early-bird spots set aside for IBX members, so you’ll want log on early to secure your bib. Members can go to ibx.com/BCBSR2012 tomorrow morning to register (the link won’t be live until 10); you’ll need your IBX member ID card handy to do so.

As for the rest of us, CBS Philly reports that race organizers aren’t sharing exactly when the registration link will go live on Wednesday for the general public, just that it’ll be sometime late morning. But in case you have better things to do, I’ll send out a Facebook and Twitter alert when it goes live. You’re welcome.
