Wouldn't you love to see this sitting on your stoop?

>> Psst! We announced a winner over here!

In case the gorgeous weather isn’t enough of an indicator, spring is almost here! To celebrate the best season of the year (you know it’s true), we’ve teamed up with the FruitGuys to give a lucky reader a case of fresh-from-the-farm fruits and veggies to help you start the season on the right foot.

All you have to do is leave a comment telling us what your favorite fruit or veggie is and how you like to eat it. Maybe you’re super into juicing. Or are you a grill hound? A salad fiend? Do you like your produce au naturel? However you get the good stuff down, we want to know.

Leave a comment on this post before 5 p.m. on Friday, March 30th for a chance to win a FruitGuys TakeHome case, a 25-serving crate of in-season, farm-fresh fruits and veggies delivered right to your doorstep. The offerings change depending on what’s being harvested, but this week’s haul includes baby carrots, oranges, kale and celery. Neat, right?

After the entry period, we’ll select the winner at random and announce it on Be Well Philly.

So go ahead—let’s hear it. Start spilling about your produce habits below.

So impossible to pick just one! Right now eating tons of oranges and pears, but absolutely can’t wait for fresh (Jersey) corn and tomatoes to be in season, as well as strawberries and peaches!

  2. Tricia says:

Watermelon! There are summer nights where that’s all I have had for dinner… Fresh and refreshing!

  3. Becky L says:

I LOVE cucumbers. I love the smell and how refreshing they are. I’d rather eat an entire cucumber then make a salad-unless it’s cucumber salad!

  4. Kaitlin says:

I use lemon juice and lemon zest in almost everything! Dressings, pastas, salads, or to brighten up some sauteed vegetables.

  5. Eileen Brunner says:

I love love broccoli!!! In the raw, steamed. Sautéed, etc!! And if I could eat peaches at every meal I would ;) AND, perhaps most awesome, my dogs also love love their fruits and veggies too!!!

  6. Anna J. says:

I love spaghetti squash. As an Italian pasta was one of my favorite meals but I’ve been able to replace pasta with spaghetti squash and still enjoy the same meals in a healthier version!

  7. Kelly says:

Avocado is my favorite thing to eat on a daily basis, but in the summer the combination of tomato and basil cannot be beat. I like to make tomato/basil/tofu sandwiches with fresh basil pesto for picnics.

  8. Renee says:

    Broccoli!!! Crispy roasted broccoli.

  9. Emma says:

I can’t get enough of watermelon. I seriously buy at least one a week, every week while they are in season. They are good for every meal and so incredibly healthy. Plus you can incorporate it into so many different forms…watermelon lime sorbet, watermelon and feta salad….yum!

  10. Beth says:

Broccoli is my favorite. My two current favorite ways to prepare it are grilled or pureed into a soup, but I would eat broccoli any way, any time.

  11. Eileen says:

I love whatever fruits and vegetables are in season. I would have to say tart cherries are my favorite.

  12. Nicole says:

  20. Laura B. says:

It’s a toss up between kale and strawberries. My husband and I put kale in our smoothies every morning (you can’t taste it) just to get a shot of vegetables in. And my 1-year-old son eats strawberries by the fistful so that is of course satisfying to watch.

  21. Carol Anne says:

There is nothing at all like a fresh ripe juicy peach sliced or whole.

  22. Liz says:

I am eating a lot grapes and pears. We are adding more asparagus and Brussels sprouts to our usual staples.

  29. Kati says:

Roasted brussels sprouts! And pineapple cilantro juice. But prob. not together. But maybe.

  30. Paige says:

Peaches and strawberries – love to puree and freeze organic fruits and veggies into popsicles!

Greens, greens, greens! The best for you and so versatile. Spinach or Kale can be sauteed and mixed with beans or mushrooms for an amazing side dish, they make a base for beautiful salads, and they can be thrown into the blender to green, and pump up the nutrients, in ANY smoothie!

  32. Liz F says:

My latest favorite is kale — especially baked kale chips, sauteed kale with garlic, olive oil and drizzle of lemon juice — anything kale!

  33. Dee says:

Who can pick just one?! Tomato sandwiches with salt pepper and mayo, asparagus with olive oil, lemon juice and salt and pepper, I’ve cold watermelon, grilled corn on the cob with old bay seasoning, and sautéed mushrooms with roasted garlic and butter:)

  34. Mary says:

I’ve been pretty obsessed with fresh blueberries lately. Yum!

  35. Gretchen says:

    Raw.

  36. T.M. Roy says:

Winter squash–baked, mashed with butter, lots of pepper, and a few grains of Turkish Black Pyramid salt. (Alternatively, stuffed with honey chervre, black pepper, and broiled until nice and brown on top.) But everything fresh gets practically devoured on the spot in this house.

  37. bill eastman says:

a tomato – a real one, not the drab tasteless ones we mostly see these days – raw, just like eating an apple!

  40. Michele says:

Roasted broccoli with evoo, salt & pepper.

  41. Eric H says:

Brussels Sprouts are way near the top of my list. Roasted at 400 for about 35 minutes, and topped with just olive oil, salt and pepper…best!

  42. Katrina says:

My favorite veggie these days are Brussel sprouts! I roast them in them in the oven with olive oil spray and balsamic vinegar!

  49. Crystal says:

I really enjoy bananas. I like to make smoothies and by using them I don’t have to add sugar. I also enjoy baking banana nut loaf with them. Bananas are versatile and add flavor and sweetness to lots of desserts and salads. I love them.

Black raspberries…straight outta the little basket from the farmers market!

  77. James Pasquarello says:

Two words for you…Belgian Endive. Although the bitterness can sometimes be a straight up terrifying experience if your buds aren’t prepared for the onslaught! I found the best way to prepare is to dunk into rapidly boiling H2O for 1 minute and then a quick plunge into an ice bath (cubes and all). Fire up the grill (charcol, please. medium heat) and lay those babies on concave side up. Load with shredded swiss, warm until it melts (doesn’t take long). Drizzle a little raspberry vinagrette on to provide a sweet little kick and you’ll be wishing you made more after you devour the first batch. Happy Spring!
