>> Psst! We announced a winner over here!
In case the gorgeous weather isn’t enough of an indicator, spring is almost here! To celebrate the best season of the year (you know it’s true), we’ve teamed up with the FruitGuys to give a lucky reader a case of fresh-from-the-farm fruits and veggies to help you start the season on the right foot.
All you have to do is leave a comment telling us what your favorite fruit or veggie is and how you like to eat it. Maybe you’re super into juicing. Or are you a grill hound? A salad fiend? Do you like your produce au naturel? However you get the good stuff down, we want to know.
Leave a comment on this post before 5 p.m. on Friday, March 30th for a chance to win a FruitGuys TakeHome case, a 25-serving crate of in-season, farm-fresh fruits and veggies delivered right to your doorstep. The offerings change depending on what’s being harvested, but this week’s haul includes baby carrots, oranges, kale and celery. Neat, right?
After the entry period, we’ll select the winner at random and announce it on Be Well Philly.
So go ahead—let’s hear it. Start spilling about your produce habits below.

So impossible to pick just one! Right now eating tons of oranges and pears, but absolutely can’t wait for fresh (Jersey) corn and tomatoes to be in season, as well as strawberries and peaches!
Watermelon! There are summer nights where that’s all I have had for dinner… Fresh and refreshing!
I LOVE cucumbers. I love the smell and how refreshing they are. I’d rather eat an entire cucumber then make a salad-unless it’s cucumber salad!
I use lemon juice and lemon zest in almost everything! Dressings, pastas, salads, or to brighten up some sauteed vegetables.
I love love broccoli!!! In the raw, steamed. Sautéed, etc!! And if I could eat peaches at every meal I would
AND, perhaps most awesome, my dogs also love love their fruits and veggies too!!!
I love spaghetti squash. As an Italian pasta was one of my favorite meals but I’ve been able to replace pasta with spaghetti squash and still enjoy the same meals in a healthier version!
Avocado is my favorite thing to eat on a daily basis, but in the summer the combination of tomato and basil cannot be beat. I like to make tomato/basil/tofu sandwiches with fresh basil pesto for picnics.
Broccoli!!! Crispy roasted broccoli.
I can’t get enough of watermelon. I seriously buy at least one a week, every week while they are in season. They are good for every meal and so incredibly healthy. Plus you can incorporate it into so many different forms…watermelon lime sorbet, watermelon and feta salad….yum!
Broccoli is my favorite. My two current favorite ways to prepare it are grilled or pureed into a soup, but I would eat broccoli any way, any time.
I love whatever fruits and vegetables are in season. I would have to say tart cherries are my favorite.
Roasted brussel sprouts – with baby carrots and balsamic/evoo!
I love spinach – it’s great in salads, smoothies, with pasta, pizza, omelets… I eat it with everything!
My two current favorites are kale – in salad or sautéed, and avocado with a spritz of lime juice!
Brussels sprouts are my new favorite. Love those little guys.
I love Lima Beans! Especially fresh ones right out of the pod!
I love bok choy a whole lot recently. Sautéed or grilled!
Brussel sprouts…pan fried with some bacon!!
I love Brussell Sprouts when cooked as follows: First, I dip them in egg batter, then I sprinkle them with Cayenne Pepper. Then, I steam them in a bamboo steamer for about 12 minutes. The taste is unbelievable!
It’s a toss up between kale and strawberries. My husband and I put kale in our smoothies every morning (you can’t taste it) just to get a shot of vegetables in. And my 1-year-old son eats strawberries by the fistful so that is of course satisfying to watch.
There is nothing at all like a fresh ripe juicy peach sliced or whole.
I am eating a lot grapes and pears. We are adding more asparagus and Brussels sprouts to our usual staples.
Kale! Raw and in kale salad, with pomegranate arils and golden raisins.
I grew up on fruits and veggies instead of chips and candy so it’s tough to pick just one. Absolutely love raspberries and mango, though. YUM YUM! Love to juice as well! Just wish organic would become the norm!
I have been loving dark greens sauteed with a little olive oil and red pepper flakes. Collard Greens and spinach are my favorites.
Spinach is truly a wonder food…I eat it in salads, saute it with garlic…juice it in smoothies.
Peppers! Raw, grilled, or roasted.
I love fresh blackberries. They are so juicy and just the right amount of sweetness. I eat them one at a time so I can take the time to enjoy the flavor.
Roasted brussels sprouts! And pineapple cilantro juice. But prob. not together. But maybe.
Peaches and strawberries – love to puree and freeze organic fruits and veggies into popsicles!
Greens, greens, greens! The best for you and so versatile. Spinach or Kale can be sauteed and mixed with beans or mushrooms for an amazing side dish, they make a base for beautiful salads, and they can be thrown into the blender to green, and pump up the nutrients, in ANY smoothie!
My latest favorite is kale — especially baked kale chips, sauteed kale with garlic, olive oil and drizzle of lemon juice — anything kale!
Who can pick just one?! Tomato sandwiches with salt pepper and mayo, asparagus with olive oil, lemon juice and salt and pepper, I’ve cold watermelon, grilled corn on the cob with old bay seasoning, and sautéed mushrooms with roasted garlic and butter:)
I’ve been pretty obsessed with fresh blueberries lately. Yum!
Raw.
Winter squash–baked, mashed with butter, lots of pepper, and a few grains of Turkish Black Pyramid salt. (Alternatively, stuffed with honey chervre, black pepper, and broiled until nice and brown on top.) But everything fresh gets practically devoured on the spot in this house.
a tomato – a real one, not the drab tasteless ones we mostly see these days – raw, just like eating an apple!
I love cauiflower! I love to eat it raw, steamed, or even with melted cheese on it. Its delicious.
i <3 fruit and veggies!! My favorite side [sometimes main] dishes include steamed broccoli and cauliflower or green beans w shallots and almonds. YUM! I try to eat at least one apple every day and I’m eager to try to make kale chips soon!
Roasted broccoli with evoo, salt & pepper.
Brussels Sprouts are way near the top of my list. Roasted at 400 for about 35 minutes, and topped with just olive oil, salt and pepper…best!
My favorite veggie these days are Brussel sprouts! I roast them in them in the oven with olive oil spray and balsamic vinegar!
I love apples the best of all fruits and broccoli is my favorite veggie, however, I eat a variety of fruits and veggies every day…….lots of fresh fruit and stir fried veggies!! Just recently, I joined the Fruit Guys…….it’s always a great surprise when our “suitcase” is delivered, I’m just like a kid with her Easter Basket!! LOL
I always try to eat whatever is in season. This time of year I love spinach! I like it best in a salad with some toasted sliced almonds, blood oranges and a homemade red wine vinaigrette. YUM!
I also love to steam it and serve it with a baked lemon tilapia and a side of quinoa.
Broccoli rabe: on sandwiches, in stir frys, with garlic and oil. Yum!
LOVE FRESH!!!!ANYTHING FRESH! Except what’s avail at my local supermarket! The fruit there is the worst- never sweet
discourages u from trying to eat healthy! HELP ME OUT HERE! PLEASE!!!!
I love strawberries. I mix these with bananas and yogyrt and have a great smoothie.
Greens – kale, spinach, chard, etc – are to die for! Love sauteeing them with some onion and garlic, then mixing with fresh pasta and parm. YUM!
I really enjoy bananas. I like to make smoothies and by using them I don’t have to add sugar. I also enjoy baking banana nut loaf with them. Bananas are versatile and add flavor and sweetness to lots of desserts and salads. I love them.
Black raspberries…straight outta the little basket from the farmers market!
Brussel Sprouts are my JAM! Good veggies dont need much fuss – halve them, add olive oil, salt, pepper, pepperoncino. Oven or grill till crisped on the outside. Yum!
Hard to pick just one! I pick peaches because I only eat them in the summer so I look forward to them – and they are good solo but awesome for breakfast sliced with some cream and sugar !!
Baby bok choy sautéed in sesame oil, some soy sauce and a sprinkling of brown sugar
White Peaches and White Nectarines—I love and live for them in the summer! I realized I was a workaholic when I went a whole summer without having one
Other favorites include: blueberries, watermelon, champagne mangoes, lychee, strawberries, and fuji apples.
AM smoothie with kale, blueberries, pineapple.
jerusalem artichoke
I love fruit smoothies made with ripe bananas and frozen berries and lots of kale. They look gross, but they taste so good, and they have iron and a ton of antioxidants!
Spinach, banana, and blueberry smoothies are my morning method of getting in the fruit and veggies. At lunch it’s a salad, and then a mid-afternoon fruit snack. My favorite though has to be a dinner of roasted brussel sprouts. Yum!
how can i pick just one!? in the summer, grilling corn on the cob with chipotle butter, and in the winter, roasted brussel sprouts or broccoli!

Pretty much all, but butternut squash roasted with salt and pepper and whatever other spices I have available, is a current and recurring favorite.
I am all into salad! never get tired of it and it is awesome for our health!
I enjoy carrots a lot! I prefer them raw with or without a salad. they are healthy snacks.
I love lemons for their detoxifying benefits and the way that they make green smoothies go down easy.
There’s nothing like peaches picked fresh from the farm!
I love all types of fruit! I am starting to embrace my veggies yes at 28! I want to live a long healthy life with my family and friends! dont make me sing i like to “eat apples & bananas”
I love avocado and I love my panini grill because I can shove all kinds of veggies and herbs between two slices of great bread and have an awesome sandwich!
Champagne Mangos are my favorite fruit. Raw, naturally delicious
So many favorites, but I really love Kale. I once bought 20 lbs of it on sale and after freezing half of it, made kale salad with cocount and tofu, kale chips, kale soup and just plain ol’ sauteed kale (with a little soy sauce, rice wine vinegar and berebere). Yum!
I like to marinate portobello mushrooms in a balsamic vinegar/soy and throw them on the grill topped with blue cheese. They are a great entree for dinner served with grilled squash, zuccini, aspargus in olive oil and lemon.
butternut squash soup in the winter and grilled asparagus in the summer!
I LOVE asparagas. steam them just a little and eat them with butter and salt. mmmmm.
Brussel sprouts!! Cut in half, boil for a few minutes and then pan fry for a few more with some olive oil, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Little bit of parm cheese to finish.
Sweet Jersey Corn in a avacado, tomotao, sweet pepper and lime dressing salad.
I love squash.. sliced, grilled on the BBQ with italian seasoning… beautiful!!
CORN! I love it grilled with a little butter, salt and pepper. I also love using it fresh salsa’s, salads, or in pastas. Corn is one of my favorite ways to celebrate the summer.
Two words for you…Belgian Endive. Although the bitterness can sometimes be a straight up terrifying experience if your buds aren’t prepared for the onslaught! I found the best way to prepare is to dunk into rapidly boiling H2O for 1 minute and then a quick plunge into an ice bath (cubes and all). Fire up the grill (charcol, please. medium heat) and lay those babies on concave side up. Load with shredded swiss, warm until it melts (doesn’t take long). Drizzle a little raspberry vinagrette on to provide a sweet little kick and you’ll be wishing you made more after you devour the first batch. Happy Spring!
It’s so hard to choose! I’m a big fan of avocados: on salad with balsamic vinaigrette, in guacamole, with some salt and pepper, with rice, chicken, fish/seafood…. the possibilities are endless!
Okra, tossed in olive oil and salt and thrown in the oven. Crunchy on the outside and soft, chewy on the inside. Perfection.
Kale – bar none! I love it with garlic dressing, with garlic, or making kale chips with sea salt. Good and good for you!
I love kale — in juicing, smoothies, salads, stirfrys — use it in some way every day!
Love farmers and the fruits and veggies that they grow for us! My favorite is kale which I blanch and then saute in garlic, olive oil and crushed red pepper.
veggies & fruits <3
yummy
fruitguys rock
I love to juice! My fave to date is: fennel, carrots, lettuce, ginger, orange.
I have not yet met a veggie or fruit that I don’t like, but if I had to pick one, it would be kale (the curly one). I love it any which way it can be prepared, whether raw, cooked, in smoothies, dehydrated, etc.
Watermelon! Not just my gavorite fruit, it my favorite food, I love it unadulerated , just a big juicy slice, either cold from the refrigeraotr or room temp ( actually healtier that way) All those fresh fruits and veggies are the only good thing about summer
Hands down, broccoli rabe sauteed with a healthy serving of olive oil and garlic.
I am a broccoli rabe with lots of garlic fan. Easy to make and you can add it to pasta with a little pasta water and grated cheese for an easy dinner.
Can’t wait for July and sour cherries for cold soup!
Kale juice! Mixed with carrot and apples. Red cabbage slaw [from Weavers Way], Carrot Juice [Trader Joe's], curly dark spinach [grown up, not baby] [Whole Foods, PathMark or Produce Junction], sauteed, raw, add a clump raw to pasta and the sauce will wilt. Lots more…
Cucumber! cucumber salad, cucumber soup, cucumber martini. Anyway, anyhow, it is #1.
Avocados now that the weather is getting warmer. Nothing like fresh, homemade guac to make it feel like summer!
I love red raspberries, fresh plump and juicy! (and nothing beats a south Jersey beefsteak tomato freshly vine-ripened in late August!)
It is hard to narrow down to 1 favorite fruit or vegetable! But I have to say I eat apples religiously everyday! Gala is my favorite variety and I usually disintegrate it into a smoothie with almond milk and protein powder. Or sometimes I cake it with almond or peanut butter. As for veggies, I try to stick to what’s in season and local and make a stew with beans and rice.
Carrots, carrots, carrots! Raw and as juice and in salads.
Brocolli with cheese. Or any type of salad
Hands down, strawberries. I’ll eat them whole, jammed, sauced, ice cream-ed, any way you can think of.
Ratatouille, Honeycrisp apples and Temple oranges
I am currently loving Carrots right now! Either as a dipper for my kale and spinach dip, or making that delicious Carrot Ginger Soup recipe you posted a week or so ago, its all about the Carrots! I make that soup at least once a week.
Loving oranges right now!! Can’t wait for a nice Jersey tomato sandwich though
Tomatoes, fresh out of the garden with a little balsamic, olive oil & basil. Add fresh mozzarella and I’m in heaven.
My favorite fruit has to be the naval orange, despite its stickiness, because it’s so juicy and deliciously sweet. Rather than peeling the orange to eat it, lately I prefer to just cut it into wedges that I can eat straight off the rind. Less mess without compromising taste!
I’m addicted to asparagus. Grilled or roasted. <3
I love all fruits and vegetables and would be thrilled to receive this gift from you. It would certainly enrich my life after caring and losing the battle to keep alive, my beloved husband of fifty years to cancer!
Right now I’m enjoying butternut squash, made into a curried soup–it’s low in fat and calories but made creamy with a dollop of Greek yogurt.
My favorite summer veggies are zucchini, onion, and red bell pepper grilled with a little olive oil, salt, and pepper!
I love juicing but I usually eat it raw…either way I ingest to eat Mother NTR’s juicy greatness.
Can’t wait to eat healthy and be more “regular”
A really good Tomato salad with Garlic, fresh Basil and a little bit of onion is what I look forward to making for family and friends during the summer months. I also add some red wine vinegar and olive oil.
I enjoy creating different and colorful salads everyday! However, My Love Affair with cucumbers is what gets me through the day! I can eat an ENTIRE cucumber or TWO EVERYDAY!!…Just washed, slightly peeled, and sliced. I swear it is the best snack ever! In fact, I can’t wait to get off work now and slice up a cucumber!
Beets are definitely the best veggie cooked raw doesn’t matter eat them in salads shakes or by themselves…. Yummo
I love apples and bananas; I eat them every day! I can’t imagine what I would bring for lunch at work that wouldn’t have spinach and/or tomato! But red, orange, and yellow bell peppers have to be my favorites!
My favorite is mango. I love to eat it right off the skin, and the pit is the best part! It also adds some texture to my smoothies.
banana, peeled
I am the proudest mom ever. My 11 year old son just started eating fresh asparagras and fresh spinach. He eats an entire bunch of asparagras at one sitting and he never gets enough spinach. He likes it mixed with butter, salt and pepper. If I could grow them in my garden, that would be even better. (And better tasting, too.)
Roasted veggies in the winter, fresh local fruits and vegs in spring and summer!
There aren’t too many fruits or veggies that we don’t eat year round. Roasting veggies is my new favorite way to make it through the winter with challenging produce. AND love putting a great balsamic on fresh strawberries. Yum!
I love all kinds of fruit and veggies! I roast eggplant, zucchini, and tomatoes for sandwiches and salads. My favorite fruits are any kind of berries eaten with cereal. Looking forward to spring and summer with more fresh fruits and veggies.
Lately, I’ve really been enjoying broccoli with freshly minced garlic and squeezed lemon juice. Green beans and asparagus are also great, roasted with a little EVOO.
Thank to Ali Shapiro, my favorite vege is spinach and my favorite way to eat it is via her signature Green Smoothie!
Tomatoes are my favorite fruit year round! I eat them like I would an apple…
Asparagus!! Lightly tossed with olive oil and garlic, roasted in the oven, and then finished with a squeeze of lemon juice and some fresh lemon zest!!
Fabulous!
Fresh tomatos right off the vine, yummy~
I would love to win this! You can never have too many fruits and veggies!
I love making salads with lettuce cucumbers and tomatoes and tipping it with my grandmother’s homemade vinegarette! I also love making pizza loaded with veggies.
Frozen cherries blended into my morning chocolate smoothie!!! yum:)
Hmmm! Where to start!? Love grilled veggies spring summer, roasted in the winter.. pretty much throw every veggie on with quality evoo & aged balsamic, splash of lemon. Same with brussel sprouts & crimini mushrooms. LOVE spinach & kale in my am greenie smoothie. And mint & lime in my water & well as in my mojito! Love all of these suggestions that I have read above.
I love throwing Kale, Celery, Carrots & a Jalapeño in my juicer for super vitamin juice with a spicy kick.
I heart jalapeño peppers! They’re easy to grow and are plentiful at harvest time. I love to hollow them out, fill them Monterrey Jack cheese, wrap bacon around the top and place them upright in something called a Chili Grill. You place the whole grill on top of your outdoor grill and wait for heaven to meet your taste buds!
Favorite veggie is the BRUSSEL SPROUT-I love them steamed, grilled, broiled, slawed, kabobed, in soups, stir-fried, blanched in salads, and creamed in stews…
Favorite fruit is CHERRIES-I love them freshly picked, in pies, smoothies, salads, sauces, for stuffing, jellied, jammed, juiced, in/on tarts and pickled!
I heart jalapeno peppers! They’re easy to grow and are plentiful at harvest time. I love to hollow them out, fill them Monterrey Jack cheese, wrap bacon around the top and cook them upright in something called a Chili Grill.
I LOVE making Mango salsa with fresh mango, tomatoes, onion, garlic and cilantro. It is so refreshing in the summer and everyone loves it!

I love bananas. I can’t remember a (week) day that has gone by where I haven’t eaten one.
