VIDEO: Emma’s “Magic Arms” Help Her Move
Remember the adorable little girl, Emma, on our May Top Doctors cover? Her mom, Megan, just sent over a new video showing Emma’s “magic arms” up close and demonstrating how they work.
To refresh your memory, Emma has a condition called arthrogryposis multiplex congenita, which entails stiff, stuck-in-place joints and little muscle tone; in Emma’s case, it meant she couldn’t hold up her arms on her own. Engineers at A.I. DuPont have given Emma new life with a robotic exoskeleton called WREX, which fits under her arms and provides the lift and movement that her own muscles don’t.
Check out the video below to see it in action. And thanks, Megan, for sharing!
