New Farmers’ Market Coming to Manayunk This Summer

The Manayunk-Roxborough Food Co-Op Initiative is cooking up an open-air market to deliver farm-fresh food to the neighborhood.

The farm—well, farms—are officially coming to Manayunk, people. The folks behind the Manayunk-Roxborough Food Co-Op Initiative are setting up shop this summer at Manayunk’s Pretzel Park (Silverwood and Cotton streets), with a farmers’ market every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. beginning May 25th.

The market is part of the group’s efforts to rally enthusiasm for easily accessible, farm-fresh food in the neighborhood—a goal it hopes to accomplish permanently once it opens a brick-and-mortar food co-op, hopefully in the near future. Farmers’ market vendors will include Philadelphia Cowshare, Boyertown’s Frecon Farms and Ottsville’s Sleepy Beaver Farm, according to posts on the market’s Facebook page.

Next Wednesday, organizers will host a farmers’ market launch party at Manayunk’s Tiny Terra Ferma, a new garden store at 4324 Main Street. The event will include meet-and-greets with farmers’ market vendors and food samples, including grass-fed beef, mushrooms, hard apple cider and produce. Tickets to the event are $18 at the door ($15 in advance), with proceeds going to support the Co-Op Initiative’s work. The tickets include three tickets for food samples. Get yours here.
