The local gluten-, egg-, soy-, peanut-, corn- and refined-sugars-free bakery has two days to raise $2K.

Sweet Freedom's Magic Bars

If you have almost any kind of food allergy and a wicked sweet tooth, listen up: Sweet Freedom Bakery wants to publish a cookbook with over 50 of its allergen-free recipes, but it needs your help to do it. The local bakery launched a Kickstarter campaign last month to raise $15,000 to cover some of the production costs, including editing, proofreading, layout, design, photography and more. As of this writing, there are less than 60 hours to go, and just under $2,000 left to raise.

The cookbook, titled Sweet Freedom: Baking You Happy at Home, will include recipes for some of the bakery’s signature treats, including customer favorites like the Magic Bar and chocolate donut. The idea for the cookbook came out of increased demand for Sweet Freedom’s treats from customers in areas other than Philly. “We’re shipping so many of our products far and wide,” says owner Allison Lubert in a video on the Kickstarter page. “We thought, Well, wouldn’t it be better if we could reach more people by providing the recipes for the at-home baker to create it themselves?

All of Sweet Freedom’s recipes are gluten-, egg-, soy-, peanut-, corn- and refined-sugars-free, as well as 100 percent vegan and kosher. As you can imagine, getting baked goods to taste good under those restrictions is no easy task—which is why Sweet Freedom’s recipes have been kept under strict lock and key until now.

You can pledge any amount to contribute to the cookbook fund, but there are built-in rewards for different pledge levels. For example, if you pledge $500, you get signed copies of the cookbook as well as an in-the-bakery baking lesson. Five bucks gets you a free treat when you visit the store.
