For a project that was more than 10 years in the making—skateboard enthusiasts first started advocating for a place in Center City to call their own back in 2002—it’s no wonder crowds (and pro skateboarders!) turned up in droves at yesterday’s ribbon cutting for Paine’s Park, the new skate park along the Schuylkill River Trail near the Art Museum. Here, the best 10 Instagram photos from opening day.

OPENING SOON: MAMA’S WELLNESS JOINTA new Center City wellness center focuses on the needs of moms and babies.Posted by
Kimberly Tai on 9/20/2012 at 11:48AM | No Comments
Enter Mama’s Wellness Joint. After building a local following through years of teaching yoga in Philly, Paige Chapman decided to found a family wellness center at 1100 Pine Street, set to open on October 5th. Mama’s Wellness Joint was born out of the idea that Philadelphia women and families need a safe and welcoming space to learn more about how to better care for themselves and their children. Chapman will provide women and families with a range of alternative-wellness workshops and yoga classes meant to address the needs of women and their families before and after giving birth. On the jam-packed roster are adult, prenatal, postpartum and kids yoga classes; Mommy and Me and Daddy and Me classes; workshops including meditation, ayurveda and nutrition; and fertility-support groups. An in-house masseuse and retail space with all-natural products for mom and baby round out the offerings. Related Post: |
NEW JUICE CAFE NOW OPEN IN CENTER CITYRyan Crown's Juice Club's new storefront serves up 16 ounces of pure nutrition. And it tastes good, too!Posted by
Becky Kerner on 7/2/2012 at 1:49PM | 2 Comments
But we’ve heard it time and time again that breakfast is the most important meal of the day; it replenishes our energy and deters us from overeating later on. Which is why Ryan Crown created a convenient (and healthy!) way for Philadelphians to get their morning nutrition, even when running late. Through his self-named juice club, Crown concocts juice each morning from entirely organic ingredients like cucumber, apple, lemon and ginger, with no added sugar. He then jumps on his bike at 6 a.m. and will come to your home or workplace to bring you breakfast in a bottle. He offers deliveries in sets of three 16 ounce juices for $20. Now for the exciting news: Ryan Crown’s Juice Club opened its first store yesterday at 1425 Arch Street (yep, it’s right inside Sweat Fitness). So, if you’re not ready to commit in advance to a delivery but want to try out the healthy (and refreshing) goods, you can swing by and grab one for $5.50. |

JUST OPENED: BODY CYCLE STUDIOA Spin-only space opens on ChestnutPosted by
Jenna Bergen on 12/13/2010 at 10:26AM | 2 Comments
Indoor cyclists now have a space to call their own. Longtime Sporting Club cycling instructor Russell Carter opened a Spin-only studio, Body Cycle, on Chestnut Street earlier this month. A floor below Symmetry Dance, the single-room space feels refined and classy, more yoga studio than Spin room thanks to the wood floors and floor-to-ceiling windows. Though tiny (come dressed, there aren’t showers or a locker room), the space packs 20 bikes comfortably and the mirrors allow you to check your form from any angle. The Keiser bikes, which use magnetic resistance rather than chains, are smooth and quiet. “They are a little more forgiving on the joints than other types,” says Carter. READ MORE |
JUST OPENED: FAIRMOUNT RUNNING COMPANYThe owners of Jenkintown Running Company open a second storePosted by
Erica Palan on 8/19/2010 at 4:46PM | 3 Comments
Fairmount Running Company, which opened August 3, is owned by former St. Joe’s track teammates Joe Lanci and Karl Savage. Also the owners of Jenkintown Running Company, the Philadelphia area’s first (and one of the most well-known) running store, the pair offers personalized, hands-on service. “A lot of times people will go to a big box store and grab the cheapest pair of running shoes or talk to someone who really doesn’t know what they’re talking about,” says Lanci. “Then those people wind up getting shin splints or stress fractures based on the shoes they get. We’re a full-service running specialty store, so we do foot gait analysis. We look at their arch height and the width of their foot and we guide them through the shoe selection.” READ MORE |
