Bride-to-Be Blogger Danielle: Custom Stationery

Tim and I agree that we want a wedding that is unique in many ways, and that includes our stationery. We knew we didn’t want anything too formal, since the wedding is somewhat casual, but we also wanted them to be tasteful and polished. Luckily, my sister and bridesmaid was a fine art major and agreed to help us with our stationery suite.

I could vision exactly what I wanted in my head, but unfortunately I have zero design skills. I’m pretty crafty, but I can’t even draw a straight line with a ruler! So I did my best to explain to her what I wanted and created my custom color palette (you may remember me singing the praises of an awesome website in an earlier post).

What she came up with was even better than we could ever have dreamed! It is a fun, fluffy wave that is warm and welcoming. We will use it in different ways on our save-the-dates, invitations, reception cards, programs, menus and thank-you cards. The look and feel is bright and contemporary, but still soft.

I’ve decided to have everything printed at VistaPrint, as they have super-competitive prices and do allow you to upload a custom design. This is a great option if you or someone you know is a graphic designer, but they also have a selection of invitation designs if you do not.

Now that we have all our lodging finalized (Update: we had to go with three hotels, but they’re all on the boardwalk and it’s done — yay!), we will send save-the-dates next week, just as soon as we finalize our guest list (eek!) and play with the layout a little bit.

Are you using custom stationery? Who is designing it? Are you asking members of your wedding party, family or friends to help with some of your wedding details?

Upcoming: We have to finalize guest list and wedding web site over the weekend, finalize save-the-date layouts and order invitations next week, and I also have my first dress fitting Monday. It’s going to be a busy week!
