Bride-to-Be Blogger Danielle: D.I. WHY?
Last night I awoke in a sweat, my heart beating fast in my chest, and I sat up with a start. No, I wasn’t having a nightmare; I realized that I’m getting married in 80 days. The panic was not about the impending nuptials — I cannot wait to be married, and right now Tim and I pretty much operate as if we already are.
No, the panic was because there are 80 days left to go, and still so much left to do. As I lay there tossing and turning, my mind going a million miles a minute, I found myself thinking, “Why, why, why did I insist on doing so much for this wedding by myself?”
Oh yeah, because I am not made of money. And I wanted to invite 200 people. And I thought that 23 months was a long enough engagement to plan and work on things slowly. And because I’ve done this before countless times. I once planned a huge national brand launch event in two months flat, so thought that this should be simple. (Except that this time I don’t have nearly the same budget and it’s not my full-time job. Hmm … )
I finally went downstairs and watched TV until about 2:30 in the morning, trying to picture the timeline in my head. I made a mental plan of what we absolutely need to get done over the next two weeks, and this morning I awoke a bit less nervous about getting it done. Driven, definitely, a little high-energy (ok a lot), but not really nervous at all.
I lit a fire under Tim and he now is helping with several things. I’ve talked with him about prioritizing things. Two of my awesome bridesmaids are coming to visit this weekend to help me get my invitations out the door. And I know, at the end of the day, I will be able to look back, smile and be proud that I did so much of the wedding preparation myself (with some help!).
And I promise that when May 21st rolls around, I will relax, smile, and have a good time.
