An Interview With Monique Lhuillier About Her Spring 2014 Bridal Collection

Luella by Monique Lhuillier; photo courtesy of the designer.

Monique Lhuillier creates the wedding dresses of some girls’ dreams, with their structured silhouettes and soft lace details—and recently, she sat down with fashion and beauty site Refinery 29 to chat about them.

Well, specifically, her new spring 2014 bridal collection. She created it with the “spur of the moment” bride in mind, she says, referring to the bridal cocktail dresses and day suits that grace this most recent collection. She talks about the fabrics she worked with this time around—a few new colors, printed organza—and her recent love of long sleeves on bridal gowns, and how, when it comes to showing skin, less is definitely more.

Read the whole interview here.

PAPER ON PINE’S NEW PHILLY-THEMED CARDS, TOTES & ACCESSORIES

With LOVE, Liberty Bell and soft pretzel motifs.

Paper on Pine's New Philly-Themed Cards, Totes & Accessories

Paper on Pine's new line of Philly-themed gifts.

We have long loved adorable local stationery shop Paper on Pine (which, yes, kept the same name even when it moved to S. 13th Street in Midtown Village years ago), known for their super cute stationery, gifts, and one-of-a-kind invitations. And now, they’ve got a whole new line of in-house-designed Philly-themed products perfect for your Big Day.

There are wine totes (great for welcome bags, bridesmaids and hostess gifts), little pouches (ditto—plus, they make a great on-the-go makeup bag perfect to keep with you at all your various wedding-related soirees), and note cards (hello, thank-you notes), all adorned with various Philly motifs, from takes on the LOVE statue and Liberty Bell to the city’s signature soft pretzel.

And because everything is designed in-house, owner Cindy McDonnell—who decided to introduce this new line of products as the shop’s Philly-themed save-the-dates, invitations, programs and gift tags became more and more popular—can personalize any item for you with your and your groom’s names or wedding date.

Philly-themed wine totes and pouches, $20, and note cards, $15 for a box of 10, all at Paper on Pine, 115 South 13th Street, Philadelphia.

Are you using any Philly-themed products for your Big Day?

We love a good Buzzfeed roundup, and today we came across a pictorial list of some of the most funny and unique ways dudes have popped the question to their girlfriends, with each picture more giggle- or aw-worthy than the next.

If we have to choose our faves, we’re going to have to go with the personalized Ben and Jerry’s ice cream pint and the surprise proposal on the log flume ride. We love that she was clueless as to what was going on behind her until the picture popped out.

Did you receive an unusual proposal, or have you seen any other awesome ones to add to this list? Share your stories in the comments!

WEATHER CHANNEL’S ONLINE TOOL HELPS YOU TRACK THE WEATHER FOR YOUR WEDDING AND HONEYMOON

Posted by Amanda Willis on 4/8/2013 at 6:48PM | No Comments

CDC IssWeather Channel's Online Tool Helps You Track the Weather For Your Wedding and Honeymoon ues Wedding Day Survival Guides

Ingram Publishing

They say April showers bring May flowers, but did you know that July is normally the wettest month for the Philadelphia area?

We recently stumbled upon this cool feature on Weather.com that allows brides to create a My Wedding Weather page on their site to help them track the weather for both their wedding date and location, and honeymoon destination and location.

Let’s say you are torn between holding your wedding at the Shore or at an outdoor garden space in Philadelphia: Weather.com will compare the two outdoor locations for you. Just punch in your wedding date, if you have it, and it will tell you what to expect, weather-wise. Or, once you’ve settled on your location, it can also tell you the average hottest, coolest, wettest and driest months for the area, if you haven’t yet decided on a date. You want to tie the knot at sunset? It can tell you the exact time to hold your ceremony.

And of course, there’s the honeymoon: Just search any of the locations that you are your groom are considering, and you’ll not only get the weather conditions for your potential post-nuptial getaway destination (especially helpful for locales where hurricanes tend to occur), but also a few tips on what to pack. It can help you make these weather-related decisions up for four years in advance!

We know having to deal with the weather—predict it, prepare for it, try and outsmart it—is one of the more stressful things you have to tackle during the planning process, but using a tool like this might actually save you a few headaches.

Remember: Whether it is cold or whether it is hot, we shall have weather, whether or not!

Anyone else find a great online tool for helping you track the weather as it concerns your wedding?

ASK THE EXPERT: Do I Have to Decide Which Guests Can Bring Guests Before Sending Save-the-Dates?

iStockphoto

Q: Do I have to decide by the time I send out my save-the-dates who gets a date and who doesn’t, so that the save-the-date can be addressed to reflect that? Or can I just send them out to the people I want to save the date and then later on, their actual invitations will reflect whether or not they get a date?

ASK THE EXPERT: How Can We Personally Greet Hundreds of Guests and Still Have Fun at Our Wedding?

Shutterstock

Q: It’s looking like we’re going to have around 350 people at our wedding, and I’m not sure how to go about greeting each of them and thanking them for coming and still get to enjoy my own party. Is it important that we speak to each one personally? If so, when and how should we get that done? We’d like to be able to still have time to eat dinner and dance the night away!

A: It is indeed hugely important that you thank each of your guests personally for coming, and for that, there are a few options.

Dynamic Graphic

If you’re anything like us, you could move into The Container Store and be perfectly happy. And if that does, indeed, describe you, then we’re guessing it’s safe to bet that you are going to include the glorious store’s Cherry Hill location on your wedding registry. If you are, good news—and if you weren’t going to, maybe you should check this out:

These organization experts have just announced their Love, Share, Win! wedding registry contest with two fab prizes perfectly fit for newlyweds: Starting on March 1st, couples who register at The Container Store will be automatically entered to win an Eagle Creek Luggage honeymoon package valued at $1,000 and also a $1,000 gift card to the The Container Store with no restrictions on purchases. Good for anything in the store from Elfa, their modular shelving and drawer system, to individual purchases made in the name of getting you and the hubby organized as you unpack all of those wedding gifts after the honeymoon.

For an even better chance at winning these prizes, they’ll give you another entry to the contest with each transaction that is made off your registry. So the more friends and family shop off your list, the better your chances.

There will be three chances to win from now until Dec 31st; the first drawing date will be announced shortly. Now get zapping!
