I hope you enjoyed reading along, and I wish you all the best in your wedding-planning journey! Just remember that wedding planning isn’t all about the dress, décor and flowers; the end result is all about the incredible union between you and the love of your life. All that other stuff is a bonus!

Just-married Kathleen and Christian on their honeymoon!

What do most people envision their honeymoon to be like? I am sure a lot of people picture white sandy beaches, crystal blue waters, frozen tropical drinks, screaming six-year-olds and airborne Spiderman boogie boards … Wait, what? Real romantic, right?

BRIDE-TO-BE BLOGGER KATHLEEN: MY WEDDING DAY RECAP!

Posted by Kathleen Johnson on 7/12/2012 at 5:29PM | 3 Comments

They're married!

I knew the time would come when I was going to have to say, “It’s all over,” but I have mixed feelings on whether or not I am actually OK with it.

Sure, I am happy to get my life back. I am happy to have a clear mind and not have to constantly think about whether or not the shade of gray in the bridesmaids’ dresses will clash with the shade of gray in the guys’ suits. I am happy to have married my best friend and begin our new life together. I am happy that we were lucky enough to be able to have the experience of a lifetime. With all that said, I am a little sad that now that everything has come and gone and the day is now just 24 hours worth of memories and photographs.

Kathleen's DIY escort-card display.

Ok, I’m making my lists and checking them twice—well, more like two hundred times. With exactly two weeks to go, my mind is racing a mile a minute. There are so many little things left to do, and barely enough time to get them done.

BRIDE-TO-BE BLOGGER KATHLEEN: TIPS FOR (SMOOTHLY!) GETTING YOUR MARRIAGE LICENSE

Kathleen and her 'maids at her bachelorette party.

Bachelorette Party was a success! We had a great time down at the beach (though notice, please, that I’m the only one who committed to my word and wore an ugly dress—the rest of them claimed they had a hard time finding one, and so wore wolf t-shirts, instead) and now, the official wedding countdown has begun!

Twenty more days and we will officially be Husband and Wife. Just this past week we went to the courthouse, filed our paperwork, and are now “certified” to be married in the state of Pennsylvania. It’s such a weird thing to have to “apply” to marry someone, but we were told that it serves a purpose in the long run; apparently, if our kids ever want to research their roots, we will be on file!

I am starting to wonder what my life is going to be like in four weeks when this wedding has passed us.

I can barely even imagine what it is going to feel like to not have my mind set on wedding thoughts any more. I’m sure I will be a little sad when it is all over {Ed note: Don’t be sad! Here’s how to avoid the post-wedding blues!}, but I can’t wait for things to get back to normal. These last four weeks are going to be so crazy, I just hope I manage to get everything finished. However, before all of the last minute craziness really kicks off, I will be enjoying some beach time with all my ladies this weekend!

BRIDE-TO-BE BLOGGER KATHLEEN: TRYING TO BE PATIENT ABOUT RSVPS

I’m starting to realize how important it is to always RSVP as soon as you get an invitation to an event.

I’ve never had to plan an event with RSVPs before, so I never really thought much about response time. I figured that there is a reason for the deadline, and so if I meet the deadline, it’s no problem. However, I’m learning that even though the RSVP deadline gives you a few weeks, you really should send out your response as soon as the invite comes in. You don’t really understand how much stress one can encounter over the RSVP process until you are on the other end of it, especially when the event is a wedding.

BRIDE-TO-BE BLOGGER KATHLEEN: WHY I CAN’T HAVE THE WEDDING CAKE I WANT

Posted by Kathleen Johnson on 5/14/2012 at 1:53PM | 13 Comments

Well … my dreams of a “naked cake” have just literally been smashed in my face.

I never would have thought news about a wedding cake would ruin my day, but sadly, it has. One of the first decisions I made when setting out on this whole wedding-planning journey, was that the cake would be one of those “naked” cakes—which is basically just a cake without the outer frosting (like the one pictured here). I sent the pictures on to our contact from the caterer, and for months, I thought we were good to go on the cake front.

BRIDE-TO-BE BLOGGER KATHLEEN: HIS BACHELOR PARTY AND MY SHOWER!

Christopher Robbins

The time has finally arrived. Christian departed this morning for his fun-filled bachelor-fishing weekend in Florida … and I am at home, alone with our dog.

I am very excited for him that he is able to have a trip like this with all of his guy friends, but I have to admit, I am a little sad that he is going to be away for four days. We are barely ever apart from each other for more than twenty-four hours, so this will be a little bit of a struggle (for me at least). I know it is a good thing to miss each other every once in a while, but I’m not excited about going to sleep at night with an empty left side of the bed. However, it may be the perfect opportunity to catch up on some of my favorite trashy reality TV shows. (Guilty pleasure!)
