Saw this helpful list today on the 10 things nearly every bride forgets on her wedding day, and, much like the 12 mistakes we hope to help you avoid, wanted to share this with the same intentions: Make yourself a list! And then share that list with other people, that your bride brain the morning of your wedding is not the only brain responsible for making sure these things come along.

A few thoughts to add to theirs:

23 Items You Have to Have In Your Wedding-Day Bridal Emergency Kit

iStockphoto

I think it’s safe to say that every girl has got her little list of items that can always, always, always be found in her purse, no matter where she’s heading. That list might include blotting papers or lip gloss or a hair tie—and when you rummage around in your bag for one of them and come up empty, panic ensues. You do not want this to happen on your wedding day.

No, on your wedding day, you want to have put some actual time and thought into what supplies will be in your presence—not in your beautiful little vintage clutch, of course, but rather, in some handy tote stashed somewhere out of the way but where you can always get to it, and in the charge of one of your bridesmaids.

This topic happened to come up this week when a friend asked me what she should be bringing along by way of a bridal emergency kit like this for her sister’s wedding. To help her out, I dug up something I wrote several issues ago that put together a pretty comprehensive list, which I’m going to share with you, now, too. (Though I have, since the below was written, added band-aids and Advil, after the lovely experience of toppling out of the trolley and onto my knees when the bridal party I was in stopped at the Museum of Art for pictures before my friend’s wedding. Ouch. And blood.)

Here it is. Go forth and be prepared.

BRIDE-TO-BE BLOGGER KRISTY: MY WONDERFUL BRIDAL SHOWER!

Bride-to-be Blogger Kristy: My Wonderful Bridal Shower!

Kristy at her bridal shower last weekend.

You know the saying “It takes a village to raise a child”? Well, it came full circle to me this weekend when I realized how many people, events, and moments made me into the person I am today. Sometimes, I guess, it takes a momentous event, like your bridal shower to make you realize it.

This past weekend, I gathered with some of the ladies from my “village” to celebrate our upcoming nuptials. There were women from all aspects of my life; ladies that babysat me before school, ones that fed me homemade meatballs every Sunday, ones that shared late nights and even ones that shared too many glasses of wine. But more importantly, ladies who have shaped me into a woman that will soon marry the love of her life. And what better way to celebrate this than good food and wine, amazing company, embarrassing soon-to-be-newlywed games, and a showering of presents!

Do These 10 Things To Keep Your Bridesmaids Happy (And Still Loving You, Post-Wedding)

Once a girl and her girlfriends morph into a bride and her bridesmaids, the relationships become just a little more delicate than they were. Just like with your groom, all of a sudden, there is stuff concerning family and money and various obligations swirling all around where it wasn’t before, and it can definitely cause issues. Hopefully, only issues that can be resolved quickly over a bottle of wine, of course—but issues, just the same.

We’ve offered help to brides before who have found themselves with cranky or uncooperative or complaining bridesmaids, before—which, sometimes, let’s face it, is necessary—but because it can also happen, of course, that it’s the bride who is making her bridesmaids nuts, we wanted to share this great piece we saw on HuffPo this week.

It offers 10 tips for brides on how, throughout the whole process, both during engagement and on the wedding day, to keep their bridesmaids happy. From giving them everything from a say in their appearance that day to awesome thank-you gifts and a heads-up on any creepy groomsmen they might come into contact with, it’s great advice—and honestly, each of the ten is easy to do.

In what ways are you trying to make sure being your ‘maid is a fabulous, fun and easy thing for your girls to do?

6 THINGS TO DO THE DAY BEFORE YOUR WEDDING—AND 3 THINGS TO DO THE MORNING OF—TO STAY CALM & RELAXED

6 Things To Do the Day Before Your Wedding—And 3 Things To Do the Morning Of—To Stay Calm & Relaxed

Stockbyte

I feel like I spend a lot of time, both in my position as a bridal editor, and as a friend to all my engaged girlfriends, harping on the various ways they need to prepare for the day before and day of the wedding in order to not completely lose their minds. It might seem annoying and unnecessary, but if you take a bit of time to prepare, you really will go into those two days without a last-minute worry or stress to be seen. And all you should be doing on those two days is smiling.

That’s why I really liked these two pieces I recently saw dispensing this type of advice. First, here are six things you should do the day before your wedding. (Yes, just lay out your clothes like you are in 5th grade—you’ll be happy you did!) And then, here are some tips on how to construct your morning the day of your wedding so that you are feeling Zen before walking down the aisle. (The harping I mentioned above? There is a lot of focus on the allowing-enough-time thing in that harping. Seriously. Do it. Please.)

If you just take a teeny bit of effort to be super duper organized about these sorts of things, we promise you’re going to be so happy you did. Because on the morning of your wedding, your biggest worry should be that your mimosa glass is empty.

Anyone else have any great tips for how to keep calm in the days and hours before your wedding?

Paper on Pine's New Philly-Themed Cards, Totes & Accessories

Paper on Pine's new line of Philly-themed gifts.

We have long loved adorable local stationery shop Paper on Pine (which, yes, kept the same name even when it moved to S. 13th Street in Midtown Village years ago), known for their super cute stationery, gifts, and one-of-a-kind invitations. And now, they’ve got a whole new line of in-house-designed Philly-themed products perfect for your Big Day.

There are wine totes (great for welcome bags, bridesmaids and hostess gifts), little pouches (ditto—plus, they make a great on-the-go makeup bag perfect to keep with you at all your various wedding-related soirees), and note cards (hello, thank-you notes), all adorned with various Philly motifs, from takes on the LOVE statue and Liberty Bell to the city’s signature soft pretzel.

And because everything is designed in-house, owner Cindy McDonnell—who decided to introduce this new line of products as the shop’s Philly-themed save-the-dates, invitations, programs and gift tags became more and more popular—can personalize any item for you with your and your groom’s names or wedding date.

Philly-themed wine totes and pouches, $20, and note cards, $15 for a box of 10, all at Paper on Pine, 115 South 13th Street, Philadelphia.

Are you using any Philly-themed products for your Big Day?

VIDEO: NORDSTROM’S NEW ADORABLE WEDDING AD FEATURES GAY AND LESBIAN COUPLES

Posted by Carrie Denny on 4/11/2013 at 10:00AM | 1 Comment

Thanks to our buds over at G Philly for the tip: Nordstrom, fab department store, supporter of gay marriage and home, in some locations (including King of Prussia!) to the lovely Nordstrom Wedding Suite, has just come out with a new ad that they’re calling the “Ultimate Wedding Party.”

And the ad just really is a big party, complete with an awesome soundtrack from Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. In it, several just-married couples—some boy and girl, some boy-boy, some girl-girl—shimmy and shake on the dance floor with their wedding parties and guests, and generally, just make merry. It’s super cute. See for yourself, below.

LET’S TALK ABOUT BRIDESMAIDS WEARING PANTS

This could be a thing. Let's work through how we feel about it.

Posted by Carrie Denny on 3/19/2013 at 6:05PM | No Comments

Let's Talk About Bridesmaids Wearing Pants

J.Crew silk foulard Cáfe Capri in Anastasia's Flowers, $188; jcrew.com.

So, I saw this quickie post on Martha the other day, and my mind has kind of been racing since then with visions of bridesmaid getups that center around a truly awesome pair of pants. (For the record, I am very into the outfit they show in the post, and I think it’s only because that outfit is so awesome that I am paying this idea any attention at all.)

For me, I think the key to doing this right is that each piece of the outfit has to be friggin’ fantastic. Like, you have to find just the right pair of pants, a top that would be stunning no matter what it was paired with and looks fab on all the girls, and then the jewelry can’t just complement the look, it’s got to have a life of its own. And the shoes. Oh, the shoes. They’ve got to be gasp-worthy.

All that said, though, I think I could get sold on this idea. Done right, it could be so gorgeous, and so different, and you know what? I bet you wouldn’t hear any of the bridesmaids complaining. Talk about something they could wear again.

What do you think, though? Have you seen this done before? And well? Is it something you would consider? What do you think it would take to make it work?
