BRIDE-TO-BE BLOGGER ALYSE: OUR HONEYMOON DESTINATION

The day after Kevin and I got engaged, we immediately began searching online for honeymoon destinations: South of France! Monaco! Let’s wait to find out where Will and Kate go and then just do that! But as the wedding got—well, let’s call it “fancier”—the honeymoon started to get “less fancy.” At one point I joked that we would be packing up the reception leftovers and heading down to the Jersey Shore. Oh, and it’d be great if someone could give us a ride, because we don’t have a car.

BRIDE-TO-BE BLOGGER CAROLYN: THE HONEYMOON IS BOOKED!

Hemera

I’m pretty excited, because Chris and I officially put a deposit down for a honeymoon this week!

I rarely travel, and didn’t think that a honeymoon was going to be in the budget this year, so this plan is a huge deal for me. And of course, as I do with most things, I did quite a bit of research before we committed to our trip.

A rose by any other name may still be a rose, but after a wedding, it can take a long wait at the DMV, a lengthy Social Security form, and jumping through several legal hoops to make it official. While changing your last name can be a huge thorn in your side during the weeks (or months) after your wedding, there’s luckily a host of online sources designed to take the edge off this newlywed nightmare. Online name change kits compile all the paperwork you need, and provide you with mailing instructions and checklists to make sure you’ve covered all your bureaucratic bases.

HONEYMOON RESEARCH

It's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it.

Posted by Carrie Denny on 10/3/2011 at 4:38PM | No Comments

Hmm. What honeymoon locale was Carrie scouting this weekend?

Hello, brides!

Just wanted to pop in and say hi, and that tomorrow, we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled blogging—I’ve only just returned from a trip from an extremely fabulous location where I was reporting on what it’s like to honeymoon there. You know, for you. For our upcoming spring/summer 2012 issue, of course.

Pretty, right? Wondering where I was? You’ll have to wait until December to find out, but I promise it’ll be worth the wait!

See you back here tomorrow.

AMAZING HONEYMOON DEALS

Where we're dreaming about right now ...

The Morning Star Beach Club

So, while we realize that chatting about honeymooning in tropical locales when the outside temps here in Philly are, like, well, I don’t even know what — not the kind of temps that make you fantasize about being somewhere else hot, let’s just say — might not seem to make perfect sense, here’s our other reasoning: It’s Monday. And what better to do on a Monday, especially a Monday when you are sitting at your desk, than fantasize about being on a beach somewhere?

Exactly. So, we’re here to help. Since we know you’re sneaking honeymoon research into your days, anyway, here are a few fab deals that have crossed our desks recently, that we thought we’d share. So book away! You can thank us later.

At the Morning Star Beach Club on St. Thomas, you’ll get some fun extras if you book a minimum of four nights (at $199 per night) for travel between now and September 30, 2011. In addition to a personal concierge who can set up everything from kayaking, hiking, scuba and snorkel tours to jaunts to nearby St. John and St. Croix, you’ll get a $200 credit to use towards food and beverage at the resort’s on-the-beach restaurants, as well as a complimentary in-room iPod Shuffle to use during your stay, and a $25 iTunes gift card.

NORDSTROM’S NEW WEDDING SUITE!

Posted by Carrie Denny on 7/1/2011 at 12:13PM | No Comments

One of Nordstrom's other Wedding Suites — and what you can expect from the just-opened one at King of Prussia.

Rejoice, brides! You’ve got a new place to shop!

Just yesterday, the Nordstrom at King of Prussia opened up one of the fab department store’s signature Wedding Suites, up on the second floor between the Individualist and Petites departments. And it’s really cool: Not only will this pretty in-store boutique house oodles of items for you, your mom, and your wedding party — but the stylists there can arrange whatever you may need from other areas of the store.

BRIDE DANIELLE: HONEYMOON IN PARADISE

Posted by Carrie Denny on 6/17/2011 at 11:31AM | No Comments

Danielle and Tim at their beachside dinner at Dreams Villamagna.

Tim and I had an incredible time on our Mexican honeymoon in Riviera Nayarit, the area north of Puerto Vallarta on the Pacific coast. We found the landscape to be just gorgeous — it truly was paradise. Knowing we would be exhausted from planning, wedding weekend and also travel, we decided to spend the first half of the trip relaxing at a full-service, all-inclusive resort to recuperate before heading to a more rustic hotel and take surf lessons.

BRIDE JENNIFER: OUR GETAWAY

Posted by Carrie Denny on 5/20/2011 at 8:50AM | 3 Comments

Anthony and I decided to wait one week before departing for our honeymoon. This gave us ample time to pack and purchase everything we needed for our Hawaiian getaway without having to worry about it before the wedding. For those couples willing to wait the extra days, I highly recommend it. The last week before the wedding can be really hectic. The last thing you want to worry about is making sure you bought sunblock and got all of the summer clothes out of the attic as you’re heading off to your ceremony.

Once we got to Hawaii — following two flights and one voucher toward a future flight due to a few plane problems — we were exhausted. But after our traditional lei greeting at the airport, we were excited for what was in store: Maui was our first stop. We spent five days there, relaxing and reading by the pool and on the beach — drinking Mai Tais and feeling the first sunrays of the year. We took in the Old Lahaina Luau, too, and watched the sunset to the sound of traditional Hawaiian music.

AMAZING HONEYMOON DEALS

Where we're dreaming of right now ...

Cotton Tree, Grand Cayman

You know, it’s weird, but even though the honeymoon is arguably one of the most blissful parts of getting married — besides, you know, becoming one with your soul mate, and all that jazz — we very often hear from brides — friends, family, coworkers, readers — that planning and booking your post-nuptial trip is a task that often gets dropped to the bottom of the wedding to-do list. Somewhat understandable, seeing as you really can’t keep putting off things like finalizing your menu with your caterer, unless you want some really angry guests — but you don’t want be scrambling to book what will potentially be the most relaxing, luxurious and romantic trip of your life, either, do you?

So, this post — if the sunny, lovely outside hasn’t already made you think of it these past few days! — is here to knock you out of your afternoon office doldrums: start researching! To aid in this task, we thought we’d share a few sweet package deals that have recently come across our desk, all at places we’d be happy to be, like, now. Happy planning!
