Tim and I had an incredible time on our Mexican honeymoon in Riviera Nayarit, the area north of Puerto Vallarta on the Pacific coast. We found the landscape to be just gorgeous — it truly was paradise. Knowing we would be exhausted from planning, wedding weekend and also travel, we decided to spend the first half of the trip relaxing at a full-service, all-inclusive resort to recuperate before heading to a more rustic hotel and take surf lessons.

BRIDE JENNIFER: OUR GETAWAYPosted by Carrie Denny on 5/20/2011 at 8:50AM | 3 Comments
Once we got to Hawaii — following two flights and one voucher toward a future flight due to a few plane problems — we were exhausted. But after our traditional lei greeting at the airport, we were excited for what was in store: Maui was our first stop. We spent five days there, relaxing and reading by the pool and on the beach — drinking Mai Tais and feeling the first sunrays of the year. We took in the Old Lahaina Luau, too, and watched the sunset to the sound of traditional Hawaiian music. |
AMAZING HONEYMOON DEALSWhere we're dreaming of right now ...Posted by Carrie Denny on 5/12/2011 at 2:26PM | No Comments
You know, it’s weird, but even though the honeymoon is arguably one of the most blissful parts of getting married — besides, you know, becoming one with your soul mate, and all that jazz — we very often hear from brides — friends, family, coworkers, readers — that planning and booking your post-nuptial trip is a task that often gets dropped to the bottom of the wedding to-do list. Somewhat understandable, seeing as you really can’t keep putting off things like finalizing your menu with your caterer, unless you want some really angry guests — but you don’t want be scrambling to book what will potentially be the most relaxing, luxurious and romantic trip of your life, either, do you? So, this post — if the sunny, lovely outside hasn’t already made you think of it these past few days! — is here to knock you out of your afternoon office doldrums: start researching! To aid in this task, we thought we’d share a few sweet package deals that have recently come across our desk, all at places we’d be happy to be, like, now. Happy planning! |
BRIDE-TO-BE BLOGGER DANIELLE: HONEYMOON BOOKED! (MORE OR LESS)Posted by Carrie Denny on 3/25/2011 at 8:00AM | 1 Comment
Last week I mentioned that Tim and I decided on a location for our honeymoon. We decided to go to Riviera Nayarit, which is in Mexico, north of Puerto Vallarta. And we decided to spend the first half of the trip relaxing at a full-service, all-inclusive resort, then heading to a more rustic hotel to hide out and take surf lessons, among other activities. First, Tim’s passport arrived already. When they say “expedited” they really mean it! That was two weeks flat, for those who are counting. |
BRIDE-TO-BE BLOGGER DANIELLE: DECISIONS, DECISIONS (RINGS? GIFTS? HONEYMOON!)Posted by Carrie Denny on 3/17/2011 at 7:47AM | No Comments
Ordered wedding rings. We spent just over an hour at Steven Singer Jewelers on Saturday afternoon, and selected wedding bands for both of us. Tim had purchased my engagement ring there, as well as another gift for me a few years ago and really liked his jeweler. After trying on approximately a dozen rings, I narrowed it down to two. One of them — gorgeous as it was — doubled our budget. That made the decision simple and I chose the band that matches my engagement ring. I also very loudly declared that a second band is definitely not my style, though I would not be sad to receive an eternity band for an anniversary gift five or 10 years down the road. Tim picked out his band all on his own, though my Jedi-mind tricks worked and he selected the one that I liked the best out of the six or so he tried on. I also ordered a special surprise to wear on my wedding day that will be my “something old” — but I’m not giving up the details on that! |

AMAZING HONEYMOON GETAWAY DEALSPosted by Carrie Denny on 1/7/2011 at 4:06PM | 2 Comments
It’s that time of year again, I imagine you’ve noticed. The weather’s been cold and dreary for a while now, sure, but during holiday season, at least, there are distractions in the forms of twinkling lights, shopping lists, cookie-baking to keep you from noticing all that much. Or, at least, from caring. But the holidays are over now, and it’s just, well, January. It’s gray and cold and the spring seems far away, and sometimes that can weigh on a girl as she bundles herself for the 16th time that day. But forget all that — because it’s not weighing on you! No, you have a honeymoon to plan! And if you’re planning that post-nuptial getaway during this time of year, my guess is, you’re going to be looking for some place warm. So here, then, is a quick roundup of some fab warm-weather deals that have crossed our desks, recently, that you might either take advantage of them — or that they at least get the inspiration flowing for finding the perfect ‘moon locale. Happy booking! Montego Bay, Jamaica’s beautiful Half Moon resort has a new “Celebration” romance package for 2011, perfect for your honeymoon, or even a quick pre-wedding getaway. With a minimum stay of three nights, you’ll get private transfers to and from the airport; a bottle of champagne and a welcome gift on arrival, breakfast, lunch and dinner every day, including drinks at the resort’s bars; a couples spa treatment at the seaside cabana, followed by a botanical soak in the stone tub with champagne and chocolate-dipped fruit; turndown every night that includes aromatherapy candles with the spa’s signature sweet orange-and-ginger scent and scattered rose petals; and a private bamboo rafting excursion along the Martha Brae river. Nightly rates range, depending on your chosen accommodation, from $884 to $2,285 until April 15, and then from $735 to $1,735 until December 14, 2011. |
BRIDE-TO-BE BLOGGER DANIELLE: POST-WEDDING RELAXATIONPosted by Carrie Denny on 12/14/2010 at 8:20AM | No Comments
Once we had our last hotel contract secured and save-the-dates out the door, I worked on something relatively simple: I booked our accommodations for our wedding weekend. We decided to stay at the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel, which is centrally located in Rehoboth, and also the most posh of the three where we blocked rooms. We decided to stay an extra night after the wedding so we don’t have to rush to check out. We should be able to go to our getaway brunch, collect any belongings that may still be at the venue, and then just relax a little bit before heading home or off to our honeymoon. |
BRIDE-TO-BE BLOGGER LESLIE: MY BIG FAT GREEK HONEYMOONPosted by Carrie Denny on 11/19/2010 at 10:03AM | 6 Comments
We have always wanted to go to Greece for our honeymoon. It is a place neither of us has been to, and it has something for both of us to enjoy. Charles is all about the history of the place, and I am all about the beaches — for us, it’s a perfect combination! We spent the entire week going through tons of brochures and different options for the trip. It was a ton of fun. We went through a bunch of different ports of call that we are interested in, and spent a lot of time talking out the different things we want to do on our trip. And then, to cap off our honeymoon week, we decided to have a Greek-themed dinner! |

Dear Brides: If you are currently planning a post-nuptial getaway to some far-flung tropical locale, well, I am jealous. As I write this, cold November clouds are looming outside my window, and I’m struck with the realization that winter is coming. It’s coming, and it won’t be going away for quite a few months. Sigh. However, just because I’m jealous, doesn’t mean I’d do something as horrible as hold back on some fabulous honeymoon deals that have recently crossed my desk. No, dear brides, I will share them, and I will continue to share them whenever I’ve got them, no matter how cold I am or how not in the middle of planning a far-flung tropical vacation I might be. That is my vow. So, here you go — three absolutely awesome getaway deals. Happy planning! If you’ve been married within three months of ‘mooning at the uber private Cocoa Island in the Maldives (you’ll just have to show your certificate before arrival), a COMO Hotel & Resort, you’ll get all kinds of amazing amenities, for a seven-night minimum stay: There’ll be a bottle of champagne upon your arrival; a complimentary sunset cruise one night with wine and an antipasto platter; a private yoga class for two; and a honeymoon souvenir from Cocoa Island. If you book your stay in the Loft Villas, or the one- or two-bedroom villas, you’ll also get a complimentary one-hour couple’s COMO Shambhala massage, and the option of combining this package with their promotion that offers seven nights for the price of six. Prices begin at $900 per night, depending on season. |
