SNEAK PEEK: PHILADELPHIA WEDDING’S FALL/WINTER 2013 ISSUE!

Posted by Carrie Denny on 6/18/2013 at 10:33AM | No Comments

Sneak Peek: Philadelphia Wedding's Fall/Winter 2013 Issue!

The fall/winter 2013 issue of Philadelphia Wedding will be on stands June 24th.

The fall/winter 2013 of Philadelphia Wedding has arrived, ladies and gentlemen, and on Monday, June 24th, it’ll be on a newsstand near you!

It always feels weird when this issue comes in to start thinking about the cool-weather season, but with all the fun stuff we’ve got inside this time around, we can’t help it! And of course, if you’re a fall/winter bride, we know you’re in the thick of planning right now. Here’s a quick look at a few things you’ll find inside:

Roaring Romance 1920s-inspired fashion is having such a moment right now, and we are just a little obsessed with how it’s translating to bridal gowns. (If you couldn’t already tell from the cover, pictured.) It’s glamourous, it’s beautiful, it’s sexy, and so we gathered some of our favorite gowns from local bridal salons that are just about perfect for a Gatsby-esque wedding soiree, and you’ll find them styled with gorgeous jewels and statement accessories.

Beyond the Bloom We’ve been seeing so many super cool, super creative centerpieces for weddings that don’t actually use a single flower that we wanted to give it a go ourselves. So we asked five Philly florists to each design us an arrangement using flower alternatives, and voila! From succulents to fabric blooms, you’re sure to find some awesome inspiration from what they came up with.

The Ultimate Guide to Philadelphia Bridal Salons Well, it’s just that. We rounded up 17 Philly bridal salons in the city and ‘burbs. Designers, contact info, shopping tips, thoughts from the owners, all there. Happy shopping!

How to Thank Your Out-of-Town Guests As the coverline says, it has a lot to do with Bloody Marys and Federal Donuts. Need we say more?

Island Honeymoon Getaways Paradise Island in the Bahamas and the French side of St. Martin. Yes Please.

We had so much fun putting this issue together and can’t wait to share it with you!

PAPER SOURCE IN PHILLY AND ARDMORE OFFERING WEDDING-INVITATION WORKSHOP

Posted by Carrie Denny on 6/12/2013 at 5:04PM | No Comments

Paper Source in Philly and Ardmore Offering Wedding-Invitation Workshop

Paper Source wedding invitation; paper-source.com.

If you are anything like me, when you go to Paper Source (we’ve got locations around these parts in Center City and Ardmore), you not only scoop up whatever it is you need (say, a singular birthday card), you also linger for a while, scooping up things way, way beyond the realm of what you need:  Multiple cards and treats for that birthday. Multiple cards and treats for occasions approximately six months down the line. A box of cute notecards, you know, just to have on hand. Mugs and magnets and books and Lord knows what else, and before you know it, you might as well have just bought a new pair of shoes. Paper Source is kind of like Target in this manner, except that on top of it, you also leave the store feeling bad that you’re not just a tad more Martha-Stewart-crafty.

Well, if the little paper boutique has that affect on you, and you are a bride-to-be who has not yet picked her invitations and who fancies herself a crafter, you might want to check this out: On Saturday, June 22nd from 11am to 1pm, both locations in this area are holding The Wedding Workshop, in which you can see what this crafty side of you is all about. For $20 bucks and two hours, the talented staff will give you an overview of their inspiration boards and show you a ton of examples of their invitations—and then set you to work with paper and enclosures and stamps a whole batch of those kinds of supplies that you always loved to go buy new at the start of each school year. The idea being, of course, that you just might be so good, you’ll end up DIY-ing this whole invitation thing.

Oh, and two other cool things: If you register for this with a friend, you guys will get 10-percent off the cost of the workshop—and, whether you’re alone or friended-up or what, all workshop participants receive a coupon for 10-percent off purchases after every workshop, including custom stuff.

Into it? You can sign up online here or by calling the store—where they will also be happy to answer any questions you might have, as well. Sounds fun! You know, for people who don’t think crafts sounds like torture. Let us know how you make out!

LENA DUNHAM INSTAGRAMMED A PIC OF HER WOULD-BE WEDDING DRESS FROM 2002 AND IT’S AWESOME

Lena Dunham Instagrammed a Pic of Her Would-Be Wedding Dress From 2002 and It's Awesome

Instagram/lenadunham

Excuse us for being a few days late to the party on this, but we were away, and are just discovering it now. And in case you’re late to the party, too, we had to share.

Lena Dunham recently Instagrammed a picture of a sketch she doodled over ten years ago, or, as she says, “An upsetting document from 2002, back when I was really fiendin’ to get hitched.”

As you can see (just click on it to make it bigger), it’s a glorious rendering of a wedding dress, complete with labeled fabrics and shades of bridal hues, accessories (I kind of want to see these beige pearls)—oh, and a few side lists, including her menu (holla on the pasta bar) and preferred roster of live performances (Sade singing live—now that would be a first-dance song).

It’s just so good, because you know there are a ton of girls out there who have done this. Are you one of them?

THERE IS A BRIDE WHO ASKED ALL OF HER GUESTS TO DO A THREE-WEEK PRE-WEDDING CLEANSE

Posted by Carrie Denny on 6/10/2013 at 5:59PM | No Comments

You know, it’s really been too long since we’ve heard from the department of Crazy Brides. (Please see the related posts below to jog your memories about our last visits with them.)

Seen today: Apparently, there is some health-guru-to-the-stars named Rainbeau Mars (who I must admit I have never heard of) who requested that all of her wedding guests please do a 21-day cleanse before attending her wedding, that they might (and I’m quoting from her publicist) “look and feel their best for HER big day.”

Like, whaa? Do they have to submit before and after weights at the door to a bouncer before they can get in? How is this even something that’s not a joke? Would you even send in a positive RSVP to a wedding where a request like this was made in earnest? So weird. I say she definitely earns a spot with the ladies below.

PHOTOS: 19 GORGEOUS BLUSH WEDDING DRESSES

PHOTOS: 19 Gorgeous Blush Wedding Dresses

Julie gown from BHLDN. All photos in this post courtesy of the designers.

We told you just recently about how colored gowns are so a thing these days—and about how the majority of brides who said they’d do the non-white wedding-dress thing would opt for a shade of pink.

And we have to say, if you’re looking to do the non-white thing, blush is a great way to go. It’s pretty, it’s not extreme, it looks really great on almost any shade of skin, and really, it’s still so bridal. It just works.

If you think you might like to rock a blush-colored wedding gown just like Philly bride Lee here did at her gorgeous wedding on the Moshulu that we featured in our spring/summer issue, it will help to start seeing what’s out there before you head out into the world of bridal salons to start the trying-on process. So, we thought we’d help:

Here is a roundup of 10 super gorg blush wedding gowns (oh, that Vera with the ruffles, we can’t even), and below are a few others from the fall 2013 collections that we think are super pretty. Go give ‘em a whirl! And if you choose blush, do tell us which one you’re going for.

WEDDING DOGS: THE NEW COFFEE TABLE BOOK FEATURING, WELL, DOGS IN WEDDINGS

Wedding Dogs: The New Coffee Table Book Featuring, Well, Dogs in Weddings

Yuri Arcurs

People loving their dogs so much that they incorporate them into their wedding-day is nothing new. But the extents to which they do this seem to be growing. They hold a place of honor, wear special outfits, and are present in even the more formal of portraits.

The new book Wedding Dogs (which, by the way, was published by Philadelphia’s Quirk Books—who, by the way, just so happens to be the same publisher of another particular wedding book we’re big fans of around here) is dedicated to featuring these little nuptial-included canine friends, through a series of photographs the book’s author, Katie Preston Toepfer, took over the course of six months all around the country, says the New York Post.

Some are members of the wedding party, some are guests, but either way, if you were thinking of including your pup in your own upcoming Big Day, this should give you a few ideas. (Also, this is funny and has a few more pics.)
