HERE’S THE WINNER OF THE ‘WITH LOVE’ SURPRISE PHILLY PROPOSAL CONTEST (HINT: SHE SAID YES!)

Watch the video!

Posted by Carrie Denny on 2/15/2013 at 1:30PM | No Comments

Remember the engagement contest we told you about a few weeks ago from the GPTMC? The one that’d use their clever “With Love, Philadelphia XOXO” marketing campaign to help a Philly guy surprise his Philly soon-to-be bride-to-be with a proposal somewhere in the city? Well, it went down yesterday without a hitch on the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and now Jeremy Kaplan and Emily Schrag are engaged!

Jeremy won the contest with his entry about how important a role the city had played in his and Emily’s relationship, from reconnecting (they knew each other in high school) during their studies at Philadelphia grad schools at a concert one night for the West Philadelphia Orchestra at the Penn Museum, to nights out at Frankford Hall and Phillies games.

So yesterday, with a Philadelphia Trolley Works trolley in the background bearing the customized message of “Dear Emily, My friend Jeremy has a pretty important question to ask you. P.S. Say yes! With Love, Philadelphia XOXO,” Jeremy got down on one knee—completely flooring Emily—and proposed with the prize’s Hearts on Fire Acclaim ring from Bernie Robbins. Their families jumped off the trolley, surprising Emily even more, everyone celebrated, and then the couple spent the night away from their Fairmount home at the Hotel Monaco in Old City. Check out the video below to watch it all go down. And congrats to the happy couple!

DAVIO’S PERSONALIZED CONVERSATION SWEETHEART CANDIES ARE SUPER CUTE FOR VALENTINE’S DAY—AND WEDDING FAVORS

Posted by Carrie Denny on 2/6/2013 at 1:10PM | No Comments

Davio's Personalized Conversation Sweetheart Candies Are Super Cute For Valentine's Day—And Wedding Favors

Personalized heart candies from Davio's.

Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse has got this fun thing going on for Valentine’s Day—and what’s extra fun is that it could also work for your wedding!

Thomas Heck, the pastry chef at the popular Rittenhouse restaurant, created his own version of the famous Conversation Sweethearts with two-by-two inch candies that come in lavender, cocoa, cherry, orange, lemon and peppermint flavors. And the best part? They can be personalized!

For Valentine’s Day, they can be ordered with whatever sayings you like, either as a gift for your honey, or—as the restaurant suggests—to pop the question! They’re thinking perhaps a plate filled with various messages, including one “Will You Marry Me?” that they can bring out for dessert after dinner in the dining room. They’re $25 for one dozen, and the restaurant needs to know two days in advance.

For bridesmaids’ gifts or wedding favors, same deal: You can personalize them however you want—up to 10 characters per candy—and for more bulk orders like this, Davio’s will work with you on special pricing.

Oh, and right now, they’re having a bit of fun with these for V-Day: You can Tweet any suggestions for sayings on these hearts to @daviosphilly, and if your message is selected, you’ll win a $50 gift card to Davio’s. You’ve just got to toss your suggestion at them by 6pm on Wednesday, February 13th!

VIDEO: SOME BRIDES PLAN THEIR WEDDINGS YEARS BEFORE EVEN MEETING THEIR GROOMS

Posted by Carrie Denny on 1/29/2013 at 6:36PM | No Comments

By the time they’re actually planning their weddings, many girls might have at least a vague picture in their minds of the type of celebration they want to have. Whether it’s that they want to wear lace or that they want to get married barefoot on the beach or that they simply must carry white roses, which have been their favorite since the age of seven, they’ve got something to go on.

And then there are other girls who pretty much only have to sign a few contracts, and they’re good to go. Because they already have their weddings planned before they become engaged.

Because they already have their weddings planned before they even meet the dude.

There was an article in the New York Times this past weekend in which we hear from some of these ladies. It seems that wedding stuff—like us, hi, yes, they mean outlets like us—is so out there these days in the form of magazines and TV shows and the Internet—that’s it’s all kind of acted as this type of perfect-storm enabler for ladies who might otherwise just be daydreaming about all this stuff.

Good Morning America followed the article up with a segment on this whole thing, complete with a clip of the scene in Friends where Monica finally unveils to Chandler the wedding binder she has had her whole life, because there’s not a situation in this world that does not somehow relate to something that happened on Friends. Watch it here.

How much of your wedding had you thought of—or actually had planned—by the time you were engaged? ‘Fess up in the comments!

You know our lovely city’s clever and charming “With Love, Philadelphia XOXO” campaign that comes from the talented folks over at the GPTMC? Well, they are looking to help a Philly dude pop the question to a Philly gal on Valentine’s Day, and are holding a contest to find the lucky couple. It launches today.

Here are the deets: If you know of a guy/couple looking to get engaged soon—or, you know, if you just so happen to be in a not-yet-engaged couple who just so happens to have found herself on a bridal blog (hey, we welcome everyone)—you can enter starting today, and it goes through February 3rd. They want to know about the role Philadelphia has played in the couple’s love story. After she says yes (obv), you will ride around the city in your personalized trolley, stopping at romantic Philly spots to have various engagements shots taken, and then that night, you’ll stay in a corner suite at the new Hotel Monaco.

Oh yeah, and the whole thing includes a 1.05-carat Hearts on Fire Acclaim diamond engagement ring from Bernie Robbins.

Enter here—and yay! Good luck! Keep us posted!

VIDEO: GUY PROPOSES WITH BOY BAND-STYLE MUSIC VIDEO

Posted by Carrie Denny on 1/10/2013 at 11:57AM | No Comments

So it would seem that video proposals are really becoming a thing these days! (See below.)

Add this one to the list: When Australian Dean wanted to propose to his American girlfriend, Lauren, he decided to get a little creative, and play off of her past love of boy bands, and his past as a band member. (No word on whether this band would be specifically classified as “boy.”)

So, he formed a fake band, wrote a fake single (well, the song’s not fake, obviously, because it’s in the video below, but you know what I mean), and put it all to a music video which he, of course, showed in front of all of their friends. It’s cute. Here t’is:

NEW APP TEACHES GUYS HOW TO PROPOSE

New App Teaches Guys How to Propose

Stockbyte

Did you get engaged over the holidays? Did your guy come up with how he did it all by himself? Perhaps with the aid of some of your family and closet friends? Or did he use the brand new app from Helzberg Diamonds to do it? Do you even know? Hmm.

So this new app, Proposal Pro, offers a multitude of services when it comes to helping a dude figure out to propose. And while the thought of a guy actually using most of these services, I will openly admit, makes me rather nervous—figuring out how to ask her parents for their blessing, deciding on a location and the right words to say, for crying out loud, when proposing, etc. (like, what?)—there is one part of it that I actually think is a pretty great service: It lets you drop one of soon-to-be bride-to-be’s rings onto the screen, and it’ll announce her ring size.

That, I’ve always thought, is actually one of the trickier logistical obstacles a guy must overcome before he proposes. If he doesn’t already know her ring size, he’s really either got to figure out a way to nab one of her ring-finger rings and take it to get it sized without her noticing it’s gone, or wing it and then get it resized afterwards—which is doable, of course, but then he’s got to pry a diamond off of a girl’s hand who’s just gotten it, and that’s not really a pleasant we-just-got-engaged task for any guy to have to contend with.

Plus, it’s a free app, so, you know, there’s that. If you know a guy who’s thinking of proposing, give him a tip about the ring-sizing thing. Just please request that he doesn’t regurgitate words fed to him by a friggin’ app when he asks his beloved to spend the rest of her life with him.

CELEB ROUNDUP: KELLY CLARKSON GETS ENGAGED; KAT VON D GETS ENGAGED—ON TWITTER

Posted by Carrie Denny on 12/17/2012 at 3:03PM | No Comments

Well, besides the airing of Bachelorette Ashley Herbert’s nuptials on Sunday night and Donald Faison marrying Cacee Cobb (who you may remember as Jessica Simpson’s bestie from Newlyweds days—and yes, Jessie was a bridesmaid), over the weekend, there was even more celeb wedding news in the form of two new engagements.

Kelly Clarkson said yes to her bf—well, now fiance—Brandon Blackstock, which we were happy to hear in part because she predicted the engagement out loud on Ellen last month. (That sort of thing always makes us nervous.) See pics of her giant canary diamond engagement ring here.

And then in slightly less traditional engagement stories, we have Kat Von D—she of TLC’s LA Ink show and former fiance of former Mr. Bullock, Jesse James—being proposed to over Twitter, complete with a photo of the not-quite-complete ring her now-fiance Joel Zimmerman had for her. It seems like she may have accepted in person, at least. Hmm.

See, everyone loves a holiday-season engagement! Wonder who else we’ll see become betrothed before the end of 2012.

BRIDE-TO-BE BLOGGER STEPHANIE: TELLING PRESIDENT OBAMA ALL ABOUT MY WHITE HOUSE PROPOSAL

Posted by Stephanie Genuardi on 12/7/2012 at 4:32PM | No Comments

Bride-to-be Blogger Stephanie: Telling President Obama All About My White House Proposal

Stephanie and Pat at the President's event.

I got to share my engagement story with someone pretty special last Friday.

In the midst of an insane work week, Pat called me and said the President was coming to PA—Hatfield, of all places. He said he could get me into the event at the K’NEX factory and that I could even possibly get the chance to meet the President and take a picture with him.

Whoa! I know we’re just coming out of an extremely intense, ultra-partisan election year, and feelings toward President Obama vary greatly within the country. But you have to admit that the chance to meet the President of the United States—whether it be Bill Clinton, George Bush, or Barack Obama—is irrefutably awesome.
