I was just not made for the winter. I can never find a coat that insulates me enough and if there is any sort of icy patch on the ground, trust me, I will slip on it. If I could hibernate from mid November through early April, I would. In fact, I think maybe I do- as soon as the temperature starts to dip I determine my need to go outside on a risk/benefit basis, causing me to hoard most of my food and live survivalist style rather than suffer through the cold to get to the local market. A little dramatic? Maybe. What does this have to do with wedding planning? I am not a winter bride.

DIARY OF A MARRIAGE: HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO US.A reflection on our wedding day, three years later.Posted by Emily Goulet on 8/2/2011 at 10:56AM | 6 Comments
Things started going wrong very early on the morning of our wedding. I woke up to rain. Not the light, summery kind, either. No, this was an angry sort of torrential downpour, one that would cause curls to fall and hems to drag, soaking, across the grass. I was devastated. We’d planned outdoor pictures, and rolled up dozens upon dozens of paper cones, which we filled with rose petals to be tossed as we exited the church. Our cocktail hour was to be outdoors, too, and puddles just weren’t part of the plan. |
BRIDE-TO-BE BLOGGER ALYSE: CHOOSING OUR VENUEPosted by Carrie Denny on 7/29/2011 at 12:23PM | 2 Comments
My preppy side and my earthy side have been in a serious fight since I got engaged. The visions that I have had for my wedding have included everything from a rustic barn with bales of hay for seats to a classic ballroom with the men in bowties. While my wardrobe can handle this mix of style, I thought my wedding, which is only one day, after all, should to lean one way or the other. After listening to both sides equally, I knew that there was only one way to decide: Pick a venue. |
BRIDE-TO-BE BLOGGER ALYSE: SETTING THE DATE!Posted by Carrie Denny on 7/21/2011 at 12:40PM | 2 Comments
For a while now, I have been a living calendar for all 2012 dates. If someone is talking about an event next summer, I can say, “Oh the 14th? That’s a Thursday.” I can list all of the 2012 summer Saturdays in chronological order, and tell you which days of the week all 2012 holidays fall on—all off the top of my head. Apparently, these are the little details that take up valuable brain space while planning a wedding. |

The wedding day couldn’t have been more perfect. The weatherman called for rain 10 days prior but May 21, 2011 ended up being a sunny, cloudless day. It was like a dream. |

Thankfully, Philly has some very level-headed and experienced experts who are out there to set these brides on the path of least guest hatred — and we think this is one worth revisiting from time to time. Here, ladies, is the final verdict on charging your guests for their good time, no matter how tight your budget: |
BRIDE JENNIFER: PICTURE PERFECTPosted by Carrie Denny on 5/9/2011 at 7:08AM | 1 Comment
It’s almost too cliché to even say it, but, our wedding day was perfect. There were no hiccups, no problems. If anything, I would say things went eerily smooth: Hair and makeup took less time than expected, so my girls and I relaxed and drank mimosas. The weather was awesome, and if any of you can think back to April 8, we had our doubts while we ran through the rehearsal shivering and holding umbrellas. Maybe the weather that night made us appreciate the next day even more. |
BRIDE-TO-BE BLOGGER JENNIFER: SEATING ASSIGNMENTS — AND STRESSPosted by Carrie Denny on 4/1/2011 at 1:54PM | No Comments
Anthony and I put off doing the seating assignments for as long as possible. Like creating the guest list, this was another horror story I’ve heard so much about — I actually think those were our top two dreaded tasks. I found the guest list to be fairly easy to figure out, though, and so maybe subconsciously I thought table assignments would bring double the torture. We sat down to face that task at around 9:30 p.m. on the eve of the 11-day mark, and by 10 p.m. we were done. Really? Can it be that this process is not as scary and stressful as I thought? Our wedding isn’t huge, but with 132 people, I thought there would be come challenges over the horizon. As the day gets closer, though, I can’t help but reflect on how much fun it has all been. Coworkers and friends all ask if I am nervous or stressed, and to be honest — not really. I am excited to finally marry Anthony, and really looking forward to that two-week honeymoon in Hawaii. I am surprised that I am as relaxed as I am — especially since there is rain in the forecast so far. Oh well — it’s going to be a great day, anyway! Has the planning been challenging at times? Yes, but all in all, it has also given us the opportunity to spend a lot of extra time with friends and family. How are you reflecting on your nearing Big Day? Stressed? Excited? Surprised at how you feel? |
