Hey, Twilight-loving brides:
Here it is! (Larger shots below.)
Obviously, there was much fuss about Bella Swan’s wedding dress before The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 opened in theaters this past weekend. Other than the birth scene and the, um, honeymoon scene, shall we say, it was one of the most anticipated moments of the entire movie: What would she wear to walk down the aisle and finally marry Edward?
Also obviously, everyone involved in the movie was super hush-hush about the gown, though they did eventually throw the gasping masses a little bone by announcing this past summer that Carolina Herrera (one of our most favorite designers, probably ever) was to design the gown. It kept everyone mildly satisfied for a little while, but only when the movie opened on Friday were people finally able to actually see it.

We cannot even get over this.

Ok, so I realize that this didn’t happen here in Philly—but I figure that if there’s a story coming out of the wedding industry that keeps my jaw dropped onto my desk for both the entire time spent reading it and the following ten minutes spent fixing myself a double hot chocolate, then it’s worth sharing. And I’ve just got to know what everyone thinks of this. (And hope hope hope that no one has a story to top it.)

Embarrassing. Off-topic. Inappropriate. We've all seen them.

You know what we’re talking about. You’re settled in at your friend’s wedding reception, ready to toast to their happiness—and either the maid of honor or best man gets up and delivers a horrifying speech. It fills the room with tension, awkward glances, and in some cases, really upset people. Not good.
But since that surely won’t happen at yours, we might as well laugh about it, right? Our colleagues over on The Philly Post today wrote about the five worst types of wedding toasts—and we just had to share.
Have a nightmare story of witnessing one of these types of toasts? Please, please, please share in the comments.

Hi, brides.
I saw something on Nightline the other evening (I swear, if one night out of the month I try to be asleep before midnight, Nightline has something on I don’t want to miss), and I was wondering what you all thought about it. If you’re betrothed, you’re past the point of this affecting your life — but still, I’m curious: Would you be cool with your guy hiring a “proposal planner” to come up with a scheme for how he’d pop the question?

We're just sayin' ...
Before you roll your eyes, this is not another royal wedding post. You’re over it, we’re over it, we get it. But this is fun.
If you recall, when we recapped the royal wedding a few weeks ago, we approved of many a thing — but not so much the flowers. They weren’t ugly, or anything, and we loved the actual blooms chosen, as well as the meaning each of them is said to hold — but they just could have been a little more … something.
Turns out, we were not the only ones who thought that — including some of Philly’s fabulous florists! And over at Beautiful Blooms Events, they decided to amuse themselves by playing around and coming up with their own interpretation of Kate’s bouquet, which, to us, is what we were talking about: Her bouquet, just more.
Pretty, right? Check out their process here. Apparently even flowers with itty bitty little blooms can be super labor-intensive. Enjoy!
Whaddya think? Like this one better?

Well, let's talk ...
Hey brides,
Something a little sad is going on right now. Well, not sad, really, I guess … For the three other people it affects, it’s probably more along the lines of happy, joyous, euphoric, blissful — and more words that sound like that. It’s mostly sad for me, because my three little birds are leaving the nest and leaving me to sit alone at my computer as an empty-nester editor: My three bridal bloggers are getting married!
Duh, you’re probably saying, that’s kind of the point. And yes, I know. But it’s also recently dawned on me that that means I need to find new little birds (er, lovely, mature, bridal bloggers) who will fill their places in the nest (or, you know, the blogosphere … maybe time to abandon this analogy) once they’re all said and done. Jennifer, as you may know, was married nearly a month ago (happy nearly one-month anniversary, Jennifer!) and will be checking in twice more to fill us in on her Big Day and her honeymoon, but then she’s a wrap. Leslie and Danielle are both tying the knot on May 21st, and then after their last reflections, they’ll be outta here, too. And then what the heck am I going to do?
Find new ones, of course! And so here is my announcement, and my plea: Wanna blog for Philadelphia Wedding?
Here are the things to think about: It would be ideal if you …

What we loved, liked, adored ... and are baffled by.
How we would solve Kate's shoe mystery.
Hello, royal wedding watchers! And, please. You know you are. Deep down we all are, really, but if you’ve got your own sparkly engagement ring on your finger, we’d gamble you were even more ravenous for the Biggest Big Day details than the unbetrothed of the world. And with good reason!
In a nutshell, we loved it. We swooned, wept, awww-ed and smiled ourselves silly in the pre-dawn hours of the morning (after wrestling over whether to set the alarm or the DVR for the event, we embarrassingly went with both) as we watched it all unfold. It’s rare that something lives up to its own hype — an event, person, movie, product — and this did. It was, to use a princess-y word, enchanting.
That said, we’re still not sure we’d give it a 100 on the scorecard — so we here at PW have boiled down some of our bridal highlights and lowlights from the extravaganza. (Complete with links to People.com‘s extensive photographic coverage of all things royal wedding!) And now that you’ve had a whole weekend to soak and digest, we want to hear from you, too. See what we think — then tell us if you agree …

Larry Mendte didn't used to be so sure.
A posting this morning by Larry Mendte — just next door on Philly mag’s blog, The Philly Post — got us thinking: How do our readers feel about the time-honored tradition of a nervous, but totally-in-love boyfriend approaching the father of his would-be bride, in order for him to ask for her father’s “permission” — though probably, most would say blessing — in proposing to his daughter?

A local vintage-store owner puts her personal spin on her Big-Day blooms ...

When we found out that Malena Martinez, owner of Malena’s Vintage Boutique in West Chester, was getting married, we knew she’d fill her wedding day with gorgeous, amazingly creative details. We knew everything would be touched with her super cool style, and that we’d probably love it all. Just maybe not that we’d be so completely obsessed with one particular detail.
Look at this bouquet!

Hello, bridal world!
We would like to officially invite you to submit your wedding — your beautiful pictures, and all the fun, local details of your day, that is — to our lovely site.
What happens next? Well, most likely, it’ll be featured on our blog, and blasted out in our ever-fabulous Bridal Bulletin newsletter. Brides across the area will ooh and ahh, of course — but even better, you’ll help them gather ideas and inspiration for their own Big Days, and maybe even introduce them to an amazing local vendor they didn’t know about. It’s the perfect way for Philly brides to help each other out!
What’s it take? Just click here, fill out our form, shoot us a few pics, and you’re done! Invite your friends to submit theirs, too — it’s the more the merrier here at PW.
