Avenue Q Puppets, Um, Marry

Cute stunt, but could it backfire?

We get it. It’s a statement about equality – that everyone should be treated equally and entitled to the same rights regardless of sexual orientation. Since New York legalized gay marriage, lots of same-sex couples have been tying the knot, including Rod and Ricky from the hit Broadway musical Avenue Q. Sure, it’s a cute marketing idea. And a nice nod to LGBT awareness. But let’s hope nobody takes this “too” seriously.

Obviously these puppets didn’t really get married. But couldn’t the stunt backfire anyway? We can hear it already: “Next thing you know gay people will want to marry…puppets!”
