Bachmann’s Biggest Mistake?

If you haven’t yet heard of Peter E. Waldron, you soon will. He’s an evangelical pastor who was once imprisoned five years ago in Uganda for an alleged terrorism plot (he was supposedly caught with assault rifles along with several nationals and was facing life in prison before the Bush administration stepped in and the charges were dropped). And if that isn’t enough, he also backs the “Kill the Gays” crusade in the African nation, according to an investigative piece by The Atlantic. Waldron has a close relationship with Ugandan pentecostal pastor Martin Ssempa, a prominent advocate for the death penalty to homosexuals.

Now Waldron is Michele Bachmann’s main man on faith-based initiatives for her presidential campaign. Many have credited him with helping the Republican win the straw poll in Iowa this month.

The bombshell article goes on to say that Waldron is the subject of a new film The Ultimate Price: The Peter E. Waldron Story that reportedly touts his adventures overseas and paints him as quite the hero. He’s written that “the Bible represents the absolute source for the guiding principles and precepts for all governments in man, of families, churches and for nations.”

So much for the separation of church and state.

Waldron also worked for several other GOP presidential campaigns, including Reagan/Bush, Bush/Quayle, Bauer, McCain and Bush/Cheney. He’s also affiliated with several conservative religious groups that have been outspoken about LGBT rights for the worst, like Christian Restoring Americans Greatness (he’s the founder) and The Save the Family Foundation (he’s president).

Is this really the guy you want to have the commander-in-chief’s ear?
