Transwoman Sentenced in Murder

Asia Santana faces up to almost 30 years in prison for fatally stabbing her boyfriend in Norristown

On Friday, Asia Santana was sentenced to between 14 and 28 years in prison for being found guilty for stabbing her boyfriend to death in Norristown, according to The Times-Herald. Santana, a 41-year-old transgender woman whose given name is Tyrone Crawley, apologized for killing Eric Nevith, 28, who she claims infected her with HIV.

“I fought with Eric all the time about him giving me this disease,” she said during her allocution. “I am sick to my soul without him. I love him with every fiber of my being.”

The newspaper reports that the couple had been arguing on August 13, 2010, when it became violent. Santana is accused of stabbing Nevith to death after he allegedly beat her and she blacked out. He was stabbed six times in the chest, according to the coroner’s report. The couple had been together for five years and staying at a relative’s house just two weeks prior to the homicide.
