Today, on World AIDS Day, there are many ways you can make a difference in your own life, online and in the local community. Here are a few ways to get started:

Share photos and messages on the Facing AIDS 2011 Gallery.

Use your Facebook, Google+ and Twitter pages to remember those who have been touched by this disease. If you’ve lost a friend or loved one, share a story, photo or memory.

Volunteer at a local organization like Philly FIGHT, Action AIDS, AIDS Fund and others in Philly. Even if you can’t volunteer today, make an appointment to speak with a volunteer coordinator.

Join in national observances and local events, including the World AIDS Day event at the Broad Street Ministry (5:30 p.m.), featuring dinner, free HIV testing and live performances by the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus, Smoke, Lilies & Jade, Kharasma McIlwaine and Joanna Pacitti.

Educate yourself on the National HIV/AIDS Strategy or by visiting the Philadelphia AIDS Library.

Get tested. Using this locator, find the closest place to get tested for free. And while you’re going, invite a friend.
