Krystal Summers is from Laurel, Miss. And while that may seem like a far cry from Philadelphia, her story is a universal one about learning to accept oneself and finding a way to reconcile a not always supportive family. In the video, Summers talks about being a little girl trapped in a boy’s body at a very early age – and the ridicule that caused at school. She also admits how she eventually learned to live honestly and make the most important, life-changing experience.

Her story is part of a four month, 50 state tour that the founders of I’m From Driftwood completed. As we get ready for an I’m From Driftwood event this week in Philly, we wanted to spotlight one of these stories.
