They met 20 years ago. But recently, Nate and Cliff decide to take their relationship to the next stage – literally.

“When you know it’s right, it’s right,” says Nate, who appeared on a recent episode of Yahoo’s Ultimate Proposal with his partner. For these two gay men, the best way to take the plunge was to head straight to the Great White Way. Thinking he was taking a trip to New York City to see the hit Broadway musical Priscilla: Queen of the Desert, Cliff had no idea that what his partner really had planned was a proposal after curtain call.

“For the first half of our relationship, marriage wasn’t even an option,” says Nate, who lives with Cliff in Washington D.C. where same-sex marriage is now legal. “So once states started changing laws, then we knew push was coming to shove. I think what it’s going to do is put more validation on the work we’ve put into this relationship. I’ve got 20 years of proof that this relationship is right.”
