AIDS Walk Kick Off in Rittenhouse Square

Check out the three decade timeline and get ready for the race

The AIDS Fund kicks off AIDS Walk Philly (and AIDS Run Philly) with a special event this week (Sept. 21 at 11 a.m.). The theme of this year’s race – “1981-Until It’s Over” – even inspired an AIDS timeline of the last 30 years, which will be displayed in Rittenhouse Square.

For almost that long (26 years), AIDS Walk Philly has been raising money for HIV/AIDS service organizations in the greater Philadelphia region, and on Oct. 21, the 26th Annual AIDS Walk Philly & AIDS Run Philly will keep up the good work.

Think about this: Every nine-and-a-half minutes, someone in the U.S. becomes infected with HIV. But each fall, nearly 15,000 people help raise money and awareness for HIV prevention, education, and care services in our own backyard.

In addition to the kick-off party and timeline, a videographer will be taping responses to the AIDS Fund #whyiwalk campaign, where walkers and runners share their personal stories about the Walk and HIV/AIDS prevention.
