"The good news is ... it will have to come up in front of me."

Earlier, I blogged about a disgusting memo Republican State Rep. Darryl Metcalfe sent around to House members, in which he states his intention to introduce legislation “proposing an amendment to the Constitution of Pennsylvania providing for the definition of marriage as the union of one man and one woman.”

Unsurprisingly, it spawned a few critical comments from G Philly Facebook users, including one from State Rep. Brian Sims, who offers an optimistic insider’s outlook on the subject:

The good news is that not only do we now have a strong (and bipartisan) LGBT Equality Caucus, and a strong lobbying presence in the Capitol with Equality Pennsylvania, but I’ve also been named to the State Government Committee so this bill will have to come up in front of me and as many as a half dozen members of the LGBT Equality Caucus on the Committee!

In addition, last year Metcalfe was behind a bill in which women considering abortion would have to endure an inflexible ultrasound wand shoved up their vaginas. The only reason the bill didn’t come to the floor was because of the flak received in Virginia for a similar bill and for the Governor Corbett’s telling this extremist to put a lid on it. But Metcalfe still seems to have missed the 2012 election and still regards the LGBT community as fair game. Please do everything you can to stop this right-wing bigot dead in his tracks. Publicizing Metcalfe’s bigoted attempts is extremely important.
