Johnny Weir to Receive DVLF National HERO Award

The swishy figure skater is coming back to Philly to wine, dine and accept an award from the Delaware Valley Legacy Fund.

A few weeks ago, I posted about Delaware Valley Legacy Fund‘s (DVLF) 2013 HERO Award recipients, which includes a handful of local LGBTQ movers and shakers, like Philly Pride’s Franny Price and A-plus straight ally Patrick Murphy. Well, today DVLF announced that the impressive list of Philly-area VIPs will be joined by fab Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir. In a press release the group says they chose Weir, who was just here in February as the guest of honor at Philly Winter Pride, because he is a “passionate force in the community, raising awareness and educating the public about a multitude of gay issues.”

So if you missed Weir in February, here’s another chance to meet and greet the fresh-faced gay skating icon. The awards will be divvied out at a brunch on May 19 in the Lafayette Ballroom of the new Hotel Monaco. The ceremony will be followed by an after party at Fire & Ice. For more information and tickets go to dvlf.org.
