Delaware Watch: House Votes to Approve Marriage Equality Bill

After much debating, Delaware's House votes 23-18 to legalize same-sex marriage.

After a long afternoon of debating that was live-tweeted marvelously by Equality Delaware, the Delaware House of Representatives has voted 23 to 18 to approve House Bill 75, which would legalize gay marriage in the state.

According to LGBTQ Nation, if passed, “no new civil unions would be performed after July 1, and couples in civil unions could convert to marriages before July 2014 by applying for a marriage license. On July 1, 2014, all remaining civil unions not subject to dissolution, annulment or legal separation would automatically convert to marriages.”

From here, the bill moves to the Senate. If it passes there, Governor Jack Markell has promised to sign it into law.

Congrats, Delaware!
