Delaware Watch: Senate Committee Approves Marriage Equality Bill

The measure now advances to the Senate for a full vote.

You are now entering a gay-marriage-friendly state.

The marriage-equality train in Delaware keeps chugging right on along. This afternoon, the Senate Executive Committee voted to send HB75, the bill that will give same-sex couples in the state the right to marry, to the Senate for a vote. In an email from Equality Delaware, president Lisa Goodman writes that:

The committee passed the marriage bill after hearing compelling testimony from diverse Delawareans who spoke about why they supported the freedom to marry. Parents, veterans, faith leaders, the NAACP, and the DuPont Company were just some of those who spoke in support of the bill.

In the press release she reiterates that the bill is supported by 54 percent of Delaware voter, has bi-partisan backing from the House of Representatives and Governor Jack Markell has promised to sign it into law. Sounds like it’s only a matter of time!  Stay tuned for more updates.
