Queen Elizabeth Royally Approves Gay Marriage in the U.K.

England and Wales are officially the 16th and 17th countries in the world to approve same-sex marriage.

Toot your trumpets; it’s official. Queen Elizabeth has given her “royal approval” to let queens (and lesbians) tie the knot in England and Wales, making them the 16th and 17th countries in the world to do so. The bill went into her dainty gloved hand this week after Parliament and the House of Lords voted to approve the same-sex marriage measure. And while the battle to this point was heated, the law was passed on both floors with a landslide vote — with the support of all three major political parties.

Gay Star News reports that the first gay couples in the U.K. will be able to marry in the summer of 2014.

Congrats, U.K.!
