Former NJ Governor Jim McGreevey Coming to QFest Saturday

He'll be here to introduce a new documentary about where he is 10 years after resigning from office for having an affair with a male staff member.

On Saturday, Jim McGreevey is coming to QFest to introduce Fall to Grace, a new documentary that catches up with the former New Jersey governor nearly 10 years after he resigned from office for having an affair with a male staff member.

Directed by Alexandra Pelosi (yes, Nancy’s daughter), the doc finds McGreevey living as an out-and-proud gay man and studying to be an Episcopalian priest. But perhaps most importantly, it shines light on his newest post as a job counselor for female prisoners in a jailhouse treatment program in Hudson County, N.J. His work there, according to the Associated Press, has cut recidivism by half in the area. Thank God for second chances, huh?

Fall to Grace is screening with Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman’s 40-min. documentary, The Battle of amfAR, which chronicles the launch of the country’s first AIDS research foundation, led by Dr. Mathilde Krim and the fabulous Elizabeth Taylor.

After the screening of the films, McGreevey will join guests at a cocktail reception, where he’ll do some meeting and greeting and, almost assuredly, pose for some “Me and Jim” selfies. The party is hosted by the Philadelphia Cinema Alliance, the nonprofit producer of QFest, and will help fund future LGBT cultural activities in the city. See time and date info below, as well as trailers for Fall to Grace and The Battle of amfAR.

Screening: Sat., July, 2:15 p.m., $11, Ritz East, 125 S. Second St.

Reception: Sat., July 20, 4 p.m., $25, Sofitel, 120 S. 17th St.
