WATCH: ALL THE GAY SKETCHES ON THIS WEEKEND’S SNL

This weekend Ben Affleck hosted what is probably the gayest Saturday Night Live yet. Here I round up clips.

This weekend’s Saturday Night Live, with host Ben Affleck, may have been the gayest one ever — with three LGBTQ-centric sketches that touched on everything from same-sex weddings to gay conversion therapy. Below I’ve rounded them all up. Just click on the image to watch the video.

My favorite , “New Xanax,” was a commercial about a new pill that relieves the anxiety of having to measure up to the fabulous-ness of gay weddings. Best moments: A man who’s fretting because he can’t keep up with the group of dancers who know every choreographed step to a Beyoncé song “that hasn’t even been released yet,” and a recent bride who’s embarrassed that she gave her guests Cheese Nips and a mini bottle of water as parting gifts, when her gay friends handed out tickets to Italy and $40K. This weekend, it was announced that television networks will be pulling the plugs on a handful of gay-centric and gay-loved shows. ABC decided to cancel Happy Endings, and NBC canned both Smash and one of my personal favorites, The New Normal. On the upside, we still have Mitch and Cam, and NBC will be airing a new show starring Will & Grace‘s Sean Hayes. READ MORE

MY BIG OL’ GAY INTERVIEW WITH RISK! PODCASTER KEVIN ALLISON

Dishing storytelling, queerness and one heartbreaking weekend rendezvous with The State's one and only redhead gay.

Posted by Josh Middleton on 4/17/2013 at 11:25AM | No Comments

Kevin Allison, an alum from ’90s MTV sketch show The State, is returning to Philly this weekend to host a live recording of his popular podcast, RISK!, at the Philadelphia Book Festival. If you’re not familiar, RISK! is a storytelling show similar to The Moth or This American Life, but it stands apart from those other guys by asking real people — and some celebrity types — to tell “true stories they never thought they’d dare to share in public.” The content ranges from hilarious and heart-wrenching to inspiring and downright kinky.

When I found out I’d be interviewing Allison this week, I took to the web to do a little research, where I discovered very little coverage about his experience as a gay man. He came out at age 24, when he was on The State, and he’s never been shy about discussing his gay life. (You should hear some of the stories on RISK!.) But most interviewers seemed to skirt the issue — until now. Before we even started the chat, I told him I wanted to talk about all kinds of gay things. He was happy to oblige. And, boy, does this guy have the gift of gab. Keep reading for his thoughts on being queer on MTV in the ’90s, how his gay past inspired the creation of RISK! and which Philly storyteller rocked his world when he was in town last year.  READ MORE

Final four. I never knew too much about basketball, but balls I am an expert on. And these four queens returned to the workroom after Coco’s elimination balls ablazing. With ROLASKATOX still in the competition so close to the end, Roxxxy made it clear that Jinkx was outnumbered and in their crosshairs. READ MORE
