THE BEST GAY WEDDING VIDEOS EVER MADE

From singing with the Muppets to riding down the aisle on a unicorn. What else would you expect from a gay wedding?

Posted by Josh Middleton on 2/14/2013 at 5:06PM | No Comments

If we’re on the same page today, you’ve had it up to here (I’m pointing way above my up-do) with all the mushy, gushy Valentine’s Day talk. But I also have a tendency to push things just a little far over the edge, which is why I’m here in the middle of this candy-coated afternoon to share Towleroad’s list of the 14 Most Romantic, Adorable Gay Wedding Videos Ever Made.

I can’t help it. They’re just too cute, and, especially after yesterday’s energizing press conference with the Pennsylvania legislature’s Equality Caucus, inspiring. I’ve chosen two of my favorites, one from the gay-male and one from the lesbian selections. You’ll have to head over to Towlerod to see the rest, you sweet little sap you.

REMEMBERING WHITNEY HOUSTON ONE YEAR AFTER HER DEATH

It's been a year since we lost one of the greatest divas that ever lived.

Posted by Josh Middleton on 2/11/2013 at 7:18PM | No Comments

I thought I’d end today’s blog roll with a memorial post to Whitney Houston, who we lost on this very day last year. The video I chose, “It’s Not Right, But It’s Okay,” was a defining song of my coming-out period. It defines fierce. She really is one of the greatest divas that ever lived.

I wrote a blog post when Whitney passed away about what her music and persona meant to me as a gay kid. Check it out here if you’d like. We miss you, Nippy. Please come back!

LISTEN: 5 GAY MUSICIANS TO KEEP AN EAR ON

A selection of tunes for those looking to break out of their pop-diva rut.

Posted by Josh Middleton on 2/7/2013 at 3:19PM | No Comments

When it comes to music, I love my pop divas just as much as the next gay ‘mo, but sometimes my ears crave something more than a finger-waving, scale-running primadonna. But as someone who grew up mainly listening to pop music, I find it difficult to break away from my comfort zone to discover something new. That’s why I really liked gay.net‘s list of “5 New Favorite Gay Musicians.” Below, you’ll find vids from their chosen handful of gay (and one gay-ish) artists from all around the world.

My favorite? Chile’s Alex Anwandter. Yea, I know, his music leans toward the ’80s-Madonna vibe, but his songs are super catchy and I love that certain burst of pep that you can only get from South America. I love Carletta Sue Kay, too. Her work is a little more subdued, and, come one, she’s a 47-year-old man who performs in a rats-nest of a wig and a miu miu. What’s not to love? Give ‘em a listen and let me know what you think.

1. ALEX ANWANDTER

VIDEO: HOMOPHOBIC PASTORS AND POLITICIANS WHO WERE REALLY GAY

Amidst all the hate being spewed by religious leaders, let's remember that they're probably just big ol' queens themselves.

Posted by Josh Middleton on 2/1/2013 at 3:11PM | No Comments

Perhaps it’s the latest Boy Scouts news that has anti-gay folks in a tizzy this week — or maybe there’s something in the water that’s making their inner gay feel extra restless — but the past few days have seen a flurry of  horrendous comments from religious leaders and politicians.

The most ridiculous offender? Colorado pastor Kevin Swanson, who recently warned that if his state decides to approve civil unions, gay-friendly churches will set out on a manhunt to burn Christians at the stake, and people will steal children out of good homes and hand them over to pedophile groups. NEWS BLOOPER: REPORTER THROWS SERIOUS SHADE AT VIDEOBOMBER

Don't mess with Jessica Sanchez of WKMG.

Posted by Josh Middleton on 1/31/2013 at 2:28PM | 1 Comment

I got the biggest kick out of this video today, so I thought I’d pass it along so we could share a little Thursday-afternoon giggle.

Jessica Sanchez, a reporter for WKMG in Orlando, is currently in New Orleans to report on the Super Bowl. While doing a live shot from Bourbon Street a bystander comes up behind her for a good old-fashioned video bomb — waving, shouting for her team, the whole bit. Now, Sanchez has obviously been dealing with people like this all week, so she commences to pull out one of the slyest displays of shade I’ve seen in a while. Check it out above. It’s news blooper at it’s very finest.

SHARON NEEDLES RELEASES VIDEO FOR HER FIRST SINGLE

The spooky Drag Race superstar releases a video and an album all in one week.

Posted by Josh Middleton on 1/30/2013 at 12:28PM | No Comments

“Once upon a time there was a little dead girl, dug up from the cornfields of Newton, Iowa. She was discovered by a much more gorgeous, blacker, beautiful, famous drag queen, and her career took off … ” That’s how RuPaul narrates the beginning of “This Club is a Haunted House,” Drag Race superstar Sharon Needles’ spooky club anthem from her just-dropped album, PG-13. The video follows the Marilyn Manson-recalling drag star as she and a band of club kids take over a club and turn it into a creepy-but-very-danceable fright fest. Check out the video below, and visit HuffPost’s Gay Voices behind-the-scenes photo gallery of the video’s shoot.

QUEER PORN AUTEUR DIRECTS THE KNIFE’S LATEST VIDEO

Marit Östberg brings gender-bending, S&M realness in "Full of Fire."

Posted by Josh Middleton on 1/29/2013 at 1:30PM | 1 Comment

Swedish queer feminist porn director Marit Östberg made the nearly-10-minute video for The Knife’s “Full of Fire,” the danceable first single from the electro-pop duo’s upcoming album Shaking the Habitual. The thing is jam-packed with gender-bending of all persuasions — from lipstick- and blush-covered punk boys to a provocative scene where a female army officer seduces a lady Occupy protestor. There’s S&M, there’s voyeurism and even a little water sports — everything you’d expect from an auteur who made a name for herself directing 2009′s Dirty Diaries, a compilation of 13 queer pornographic short films that promote “orgasms and art in films for the open adult mind.” So open your mind and watch this one. It’s sexy!
