The world-class skater talks divas, beauty secrets, Tchaikovsky and ... sex.

Johnny Weir likes us! He really likes us! In February, the U.S. figure skating champion twirled into Philly to help us celebrate our first-annual WinterPride, where he dazzled with a quick ice show and picked up an award from Philly Pride Presents. And this weekend, he’s coming back to romp with us again. On Sunday, he and a handful of local LGBTQ and ally movers and shakers will be honored at the Delaware Valley Legacy Fund‘s (DVLF) annual HEROES event. Weir will receive the DVLF’s National HERO award during the main event, then he’ll move on to Fire & Ice (how appropriate!) to shake his toosh at the after-party and T-dance.
I’m not kidding about the shaking-his-butt part. If you read below, you’ll find out that’s one of his favorite moves to do on the ice, plus a slew of other things you probably never knew about the sassy little ice diva from Quarryville, Pa. READ MORE

One of six applicants will receive IBA's annual LGBT Business Award.
US Airways Senior Vice President Suzanne Boda and Mayor Michael Nutter are scheduled to speak at the event.
In March, I told you about the Independence Business Alliance‘s (IBA) annual LGBT Business Award contest that would reward a local entrepreneur $5,000 to take his or her business dreams to the next level. Last year’s winner was Gavin McKay from United Fitness. He used the money to create an online model of his Gayborhood gym that helped him share his business plan with a broader clientele. READ MORE

The album plays like a vicious night at the club while retaining that heartfelt Cyndi we've grown to love.

Now that Cyndi Lauper is making headlines for the whopping 13 Tony nominations she received for Kinky Boots, I thought I’d use the opportunity to shine a light on her sadly under-appreciated 2008 album, Bring Ya to the Brink. Each song on the 12-track work is a wonderful slice of dancefloor heaven that is perfect for all you disco-ball chasers out there. Think of it as two-parts Woody’s dancefloor, two-parts late-night hookup and all-parts perfect grooves while you’re crusing, er, working out at 12th Street Gym. READ MORE

The Season 5 winner of RuPaul's Drag Race talks about how her life has changed since becoming America's Next Drag Superstar.

When Jinkx Monsoon walked through the door on Episode 1 of this season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, few thought the kooky red-headed queen from Seattle would have what it takes to contend with some of her more-seasoned, pageant-queen competitors. But sometime around the middle of the season, during the Snatch Game challenge, she whipped out a spot-on Edie Beale impersonation that got the world’s attention, spurring some to dub her the “Meryl Streep of Drag Race.” Suddenly, the judges were all about her kitschy vintage schtick and her competition started dropping like fruit flies, until, on the final episode last week, Miss Monsoon was finally crowned the season’s winner.
This week, she rang me from Seattle for a delightful chat about how life has changed since becoming America’s Next Drag Superstar. READ MORE

Check out the inspired dancing queens as they ready for their weekend long ABBA performances.

If these rehearsal photos are any indication, the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus’s spring production, ExtrABBAganza, is going to be one fabulous, gay good time. But that’s pretty much a given when it involves a setlist full of ABBA’s greatest hits, right? All that’s missing is the ’70s, cheese-tastic costumes, and PGMC’s Paul Fontaine is staying pretty mum on that subject. All he hints is that dancers will “be in gold.” I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that there may be a pair of hotpants or six in the house. READ MORE

The former Minnesota Vikings punter is an outspoken advocate for marriage equality. Bring him to Philly!
"To me, marriage means two people that love each other and want to spend the rest of their lives with each other."
Today on the Philly Post, blogger Stephen Silver makes a strong case that the Philadelphia Eagles should sign 31-year-old punter Chris Kluwe, and G Philly couldn’t agree more. Yes, he’s a fine player, Silver writes, but Kluwe, who was recently cut from the Minnesota Vikings, is also an outspoken advocate for marriage equality. Silver explains some of the player’s efforts to make same-sex marriage happen in Minnesota and what it could mean if he came to Philadelphia: READ MORE

Gay marriage maps have been lighting up over the past few weeks.

With the addition of Rhode Island, Delaware and now Minnesota, marriage equality maps like the one above have been lighting up like a field of fireflies. And while a gaping section of it is still in the black (including, glaringly, Pennsylvania), you can expect to see it become more vibrant over the coming months. READ MORE

The poll shows that 53 percent of the population supports gay marriage, but there are some fascinating results buried in the details.

Gallup released results from a new study yesterday that shows 53 percent of the U.S. population believes the law should recognize same-sex marriage. Great news, but not exactly surprising, considering we’ve seen several similar studies lately that yield the same results — even here in good ol’ PA. There are a few points buried in the details, however, that I think deserve a mention: READ MORE
