Holy Cher robo voice! Manila Luzon, a popular alum from RuPaul’s Drag Race, released a new video for her single “Best XXXcessory.” She teamed up with the Blondie keyboardist for this one – the pop song was originally written for Debbie and the crew’s ninth studio album Panic of Girls. In it, Luzon brings some of her fave style icons back to life, like Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and even Jem (yes, that Jem – minus the Holograms) and proposes to partner and fellow queen Sahara Davenport. And did we mention there’s a keytar?

Check out our exclusive with the drag star from when she appeared at Voyeur.

JOSH CAN’T COOK’S SUMMER EATS

Where I like to nosh when it's too darn hot to cook. By Josh Schonewolf

Posted by Natalie Hope McDonald on 7/5/2012 at 10:34AM | 7 Comments

When he's not soaking up the sun this summer, Josh Schonewolf, host of Josh Can't Cook, is eating his way around Philly (courtesy of Josh Can't Cook)

When the summer hits (feel it?), it’s truly time to enjoy the finer things in life, like scantily-clad tan people sipping mojitos …on a speedboat. Some weekends, Philly might feel like a ghost town as friends hit the water – and road – for the white sands (hello, Rehoboth!), but that only means one thing: There are more seats for me at some my favorite restaurants.

Anyone who’s watched my web-based cooking show – Josh Can’t Cook – knows that the name doesn’t lie – I really can’t cook. So I like to dine out – a lot. And this summer, there are a few destinations that make the hot season even hotter.

If you’re fresh from a workout and/or feeling thirsty and a bit wiped-out from the heat, er last night, get to the Gayborhood’s Jar Bar. The upstart raw bar has some delicious goodies on the menu, like my favorite – the strawberry- banana smoothie. It’s packed with protein, goji berries, hemp milk – and fruit. Lots and lots of fruit.

Adam Goldman is a New York City-based writer, director and actor who’s responsible for The Outs, a web-based series about gay life in the Big Apple. Even though it’s based in that “other” city, the premise is quite appealing to anyone who lives the oh-so-gay urban life. It also features a great soundtrack with some up and coming indie acts.

When Philly native Chad D packed his suitcase (and synthesizer) for Brooklyn, we were sad to see him go. But he never left Philly far behind thanks to his new EP Williamsburgadelphia. The first single “1 Dance” is a playful club song with glimmers of Gaga and even George Michael.

Keep your eye out for this guy – he’s performing later this summer (August 16) at Fluid Nightclub.

WHAT WE LOVE: CHER – THE MUSICAL

When can we buy our tickets?

Posted by Natalie Hope McDonald on 6/26/2012 at 10:10AM | No Comments

The Cher songbook – with “Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves,” “Dark Lady” and “Jesse James” – easily conjure up storied performances. But according to Broadway.com, Cher says she plans to write and star in a Broadway musical about her life. And since the musical diva’s already won an Oscar, Grammy, Emmy and Golden Globe, looks as though a Tony could be added to the list (hello, EGOT!).

Cher took to Twitter to share her thoughts about the project, saying she has something in the works. The show is said to feature two women – young Cher and Cher today. It would follow her life through the Sonny and Cher years, her solo career and Believe tour – and will feature some of her biggest hits.

What songs would you like to hear in the show? And who would play Chaz?

SUZE ORMAN TALKS GAY MARRIAGE

The CNBC host dedicates her weekend show to issues of marriage equality

Posted by Natalie Hope McDonald on 6/25/2012 at 8:10AM | 2 Comments

Financial whiz Suze Orman has openly talked about her own being gay – and what that means when it comes to money, assets and estates with her longtime partner. But in honor of Gay Pride, perhaps, Orman dedicated her entire Saturday episode of The Suze Orman Show to issues related to couples and same-sex marriage.

“Many of you out there have the ability to get married, have the ability to really share in what that feels like, emotionally as well as financially speaking. But here I sit in front of you, a 61-year-old woman, who has been gay my entire life, who has been in a committed relationship for the past 12 years, and I will die in this relationship a woman who pays more taxes than most, that is a contributing member to the economy in more ways than most, yet, I am not treated equally,” she said.

FRENCHIE DAVIS COMES OUT

The former American Idol talks about her personal life

Posted by Natalie Hope McDonald on 6/21/2012 at 5:24PM | No Comments

Fans got to see Frenchie Davis belt out “I Kissed a Girl (And I Liked It)” on The Voice after she was kicked off of American Idol a few years ago. But the singer recently told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that the song was more fact than fiction – and she’s been dating a woman for the past year. “I wasn’t out before the relationship, but I wasn’t in,” she said. “I dated men and women, though lesbians weren’t feeling the bisexual thing. Now I’m in love with a woman I think I can be with forever.”

Davis – who’s appeared on Broadway in Rent and Ain’t Misbehavin’ – has been making the rounds at Gay Pride celebrations around the country this summer. She admitted in the interview that gay fans make up a huge part of her audiences. She recently released a new dance single, “Love’s Got a Hold on Me.”

PEREZ HILTON HATES ADAM CAROLLA

The comedian needs some new material

Posted by Natalie Hope McDonald on 6/20/2012 at 12:33PM | No Comments

Admittedly, we have a love/hate relationship with Perez Hilton. Yes, we tend to read his gossip site religiously, but we aren’t thrilled with his celebrity taunts most of the time. When he appeared on The Talk yesterday, however, we were thrilled with him calling out comedian Adam Corolla for his anti-gay rants.

Here’s what Corolla said on the show:

“If somebody says to me, ‘What do you think of your mother-in-law,’ and I go, ‘She’s a delight, I love her dearly,’ nobody laughs,” he told the co-hosts.

He continued, “So if somebody goes, ‘What do you think of Chaz Bono,’ I have to say something that’s horrible, so I can get a laugh.”

Maybe this guy needs some new material?
