Announcing the 2nd Weekender Happy Hour: Rum Bar

For some reason, at this time of year, people start heating up their alcohol, drinking things like hot toddies. Not me. I prefer to sit back with a nice rummy cocktail and imagine myself on some far-off beach with some Brazilian gal whose name I can’t quite remember. And last week, I found my new favorite place for said rum drinks: the appropriately named Rum Bar.

I had heard about Rum Bar for a few years and always assumed that it was a lousy little Walnut Street hangout — perhaps because of its proximity to the Irish Pub, but I digress. The drinks are pretty fantastic and, generally speaking, not too sweet — quite a feat when dealing with a spirit that has sugar written all over it. And fortunately for your wallet, Rum Bar offers some of the best promotions in Center City: 2-for-1 mojitos and $5 ceviche on Mondays; $2 rum-and-cokes on Tuesdays; and, my personal favorite, Save the Daiquiri Wednesdays, when all daiquiris are half-priced. We’re not talking about those corn-syrup laden frozen things your big-haired Jersey cousin used to drink at the deck-bar-of-the-week on Delaware Avenue. We’re talking about the real, Ernest Hemingway-drank-’em daiquiris.

I’ll see you there next Wednesday (January 13th) for the second-ever Weekender Happy Hour. From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., you’ll be able to enjoy $1 jerk wings, half-priced draft beers, $3 well drinks, the aforementioned delicious daiquiris at half price, some special treats for Weekender readers, and, of course, my incomparable company.
