A Look Inside Barbuzzo

The new Mediterranean restaurant in photos, plus menus

Valerie Safran and chef Marcie Turney (owners of notable BYOs Bindi and Lolita) opened their new Midtown Village/Gayborhood Mediterranean restaurant Barbuzzo last week, in the semi-quiet last days of (unofficial) summer. Despite the city being somewhat mellow, the restaurant itself was bustling when we visited and the kitchen was putting out some impressive fare (we tried the pig “popcorn” — a crisp, crackly interpretation of chicharrones, a tender grilled octopus and potato plate, pizza with homemade fennel sausage and Sicilian oregano (served on the side, still on the stem, in a tiny jar, so you can sprinkle it on yourself), and a platter of assorted preparations of vegetables, served with grilled bread. The interiors, designed by Turney and Safran, are also impressive. Click on the photo at right to see for yourself in our photo gallery.
