Just Open: Morihata

Because if it's big in Japan, we'll seriously love it here.

For a few years now, I’ve been wondering about Morihata. I’d see a postcard in a cafe, or a link to a website. It always looked cool. But I never quite got it. Was it a shop? A website? A secret way to lure shelter addicts into a Loft District pyramid scheme? (Good thing I wasn’t a journalist, and couldn’t follow up on this story.)

Well, all has recently been revealed — and will be further illuminated — when the North 13th Street shop hosts a grand opening this Friday, November 12. Finally, the general public will be able to feel up those famously soft “Yoshi” towels (pictured), and purchase magic charcoal-based purifiers, bubbly glass jewelry, and beautiful curved-wood tea canisters. And, perhaps, feel a little bit more enlightened in the process.

Friday, November 12, 6-8pm. To R.S.V.P., email info@morihata.com.

Morihata, 428 North 13th Street.
