HughE Dillon: Recess Lounge Celebrates An Anniversary

Plus: Lumiere comes to Rittenhouse Square, Jimmy Rollins's music biz deals, and an honor for Shane Victorino

Last week, I attended a party for the opening of Rittenhouse Square’s newest neighbor, high-end concierge service Lumiere. Pictured left: Caesar Carter, Marcello LaRotonda, and Nathanial Pitts.

Last night, Recess Lounge celebrated its first anniversary with fire performers, left, and lots of fun. Partners Marc Mattera, T.J. Gersh and Ryan Dorsey have created a successful dance club in Old City (at 125 South 2nd Street) that has consistently raised the bar for Philadelphia clubbing. See the slideshow for lots of good party pictures.

OUT AND ABOUT
Jimmy Rollins and the Jimmy Rollins Entertainment Group closed a deal to be the new co-publisher of a portion of Justin Bieber and Sean Kingston‘s gold single Eenie Meenie, from the double platinum album My World 2.0. The Inquirer‘s Michael Klein mentioned last month that Rollins bought a portion of the copyright on Sexual Eruption from songwriter Seneca Lovejoy. “It’s like buying an annuity,” says Rollins’s attorney Christopher Cabott.

Last night Rollins and his teammates were on hand at the Union League Sports Night dinner to celebrate Shane Victorino, who was honored as the 2010 Sportsman of the Year. On Tuesday night, Dick Vermeil was at the Union League discussing his career as the legendary coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, as well as his new passion for winemaking; he presented his selection of premium Vermeil Wines.

Last night a crew from ABC news interviewed locals leaving a screening of Waiting for Superman at the Ritz East. Filmmaker Davis Guggenheim follows a handful of promising kids through a system that inhibits, rather than encourages, academic growth. The interviews will be featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show on Tuesday.

Weekend Tip: On Sunday, check out Fit For a Dog in Ardmore, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be multiple rescues there, including Finding Shelter, where I volunteer and where I adopted my dog, Benji. Benji is a terrier mix who was found as a stray in Kentucky. He was picked up by a high-kill shelter that had no room for him so he was scheduled to be put to sleep. A no-kill shelter in Pennsylvania found out about him and asked around for foster volunteers to take him so he wouldn’t be put down. When I saw his picture online, I just couldn’t say no. He was brought to PA, and I took him home the same day he was scheduled to be put down. My boyfriend and I fell in love with him and just a week later, we signed the adoption papers! Benji now has a loving, forever home with a future that’s as bright as his shining eyes!
