Cardinal Justin Rigali Resigns from Philadelphia Archdiocese. In the wake of the most recent sexual abuse scandal at the Philadelphia Archdiocese, Cardinal Justin Rigali will step down from his position. Pope Benedict XVI will accept Rigali’s resignation—which should be officially announced today. The scandal centers on the lack of an investigation following allegations that priests were sexually abusing children. Read more about Rigali and the scandal in the July issue of Philly Mag. Off-duty Philly Cop Arrested in A.C. Officer Eliezer Morelas of the Philadelphia Police Department was arrested early Saturday after he and the other members of a boxer’s entourage were asked to leave Bally’s Wild West for being too rowdy. Gabriel Rosado had won his bout earlier Friday night before he, Morelas and a handful of others allegedly began to cause problems. After being asked to leave, Rosado allegedly punched a police officer. [Daily News]

Philly Cyclists Get Pulled Over. Since the mid-March launch of the Give Respect, Get Respect campaign—to promote the cooperation of drivers, cyclists and pedestrians—600 cyclists have been stopped in Center City. Of the 600, only 10 were actually ticketed. [Philly.com]

“Little Nicky” Scarfo Defrauded Financial Firm. The jailed Philly mob boss allegedly conspired—while in prison—to defraud a financial company from Texas out of millions of dollars. It’s also alleged that his son Nicodemo S. Scarfo was in on the scheme. [Inquirer]

Phils Polish Off the Mets. Kyle Kendrick earned a “W” for the Fightin’s yesterday as they downed the Mets 8-5. The bad news—Madson got shelled in relief and we (officially) found out that Joe Blanton probably won’t pitch again this year. Despite the injury bug, the Phils have captured seven consecutive series and are headed to Wrigley to take-on the Cubbies. [Phillies]

Lehigh Gets Ready for the Eagles. Assembly has begun on the temporary bleachers at Lehigh University that would (generally) indicate the arrival of training camp. Speculations suggest that a labor agreement ending the NFL strike might manifest sometime this week, allowing for the Eagles to get their camp at Lehigh in prior to the pre-season schedule kicking off next month.
