U2 Sings Happy Birthday to Nelson Mandela

The group recorded the song at their concert at the Linc last week

Last week U2 played a show in Philly for the first time in years. Their setlist included some of their most popular songs and a few covers of other big-name artists—including the Boss and the Talking Heads. Bono and company also played “Happy Birthday” in honor of Nelson Mandela’s upcoming 93rd birthday. They recorded the a capella version of the song which will be played at a celebration of Mandela’s birthday and public service. The soiree is being held at the Four Seasons in New York and will be hosted by Morgan Freeman. With U2 singing “Happy Birthday” and the Ellis Boyd Redding MCing the event, the Scoop wouldn’t be surprised if they had Scorsese throw together a tribute montage and enlisted Tony Stewart to work the valet.
