Utley, Worley and Phils Put on Show Against the Giants

Plus: McNabb to the Vikings, Southwest flight cuts, Ryan Howard's mansion and more of what Philly is buzzing about today

The Phillies Are a Bunch of Badasses. Last night, the Phils sought out some revenge on last year’s World Series champs—and revenge they got. Chase Utley hit an inside-the-park home run capped by a gutsy head-first slide into home.

The Vanimal tossed a three-hit, complete game gem and Howard hit a bomb into the ivy in the bottom of the eighth on the way to a 7-2 win over the Giants. [The 700 Level]

Donovan McNabb to the Vikings? According to Jay Glazer, the Washington Redskins have agreed to trade Donovan McNabb to the Vikes for a sixth-round pick in 2012. A sixth-round pick in 2013 will be included pending McNabb’s performance this year. The deal also hinges on McNabb agreeing to a contract worth significantly less than he’s used to making. Randal Cunningham, Jeff George, Brett Favre and now Five? Philly Might Have to Sell PGW or PHL. Sam Katz—chairman of the state board that oversees city finances—is worried that the city might have to cash out on Philadelphia Gas Works or the airport to fill the $5 billion void in the pension fund. If the airport is no longer run by the municipality, is there any chance that baggage claim becomes a reasonable process? [Inquirer]

Southwest Airlines Downsizes Philly Routes. Southwest Airlines provides some of the most frequent and cheapest flights out of Philadelphia International Airport. Now, Southwest has decided to cut Philly flights to Pittsburgh, Boston and Jacksonville. [Inquirer]

Ryan Howard’s Mansion in Florida. The Phils slugger is having a mansion built just outside of Clearwater, Florida, where the team has spring training. It’s no St. Jetersburg, but Howard’s new digs will be more than 17,000 square feet, will have a Venice-style canal and will cost about $23 million. The Scoop thinks a World Series MVP trophy would be the perfect housewarming present. [The 700 Level]

A Naked Guy and His Dead Iguana. Cops searched a home after finding the owner—naked—on his porch, along with a dead iguana. Inside, they found roosters, dead turtles, dead iguanas, six dead dogs and live alligator. Ladies and gentlemen, the world’s worst Noah. [FOX 29]
