HughE Dillon One-Shot: Flyer Ilya Bryzgalov

The goalie and his family tour Philly's historic sites

On Saturday over the Labor Day weekend, new Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov, from Russia, with his wife Zyjenia Bryzgalov, center, and children Valery, 7, and Vladi, 5, toured the Betsy Ross House. He’s a big fan of American history, and was fascinated by how the first flag was created, Betsy Ross’s bedroom, and the fireplace that kept the house warm. Did you know that his “away” goalie mask, created by Langhorne-based Drummond Custom Airbrush, has pictures of Ben Franklin, Betsy Ross, the Liberty Bell, and Independence Hall on it, as well as the names of his kids? (His “home” mask has Siberian tigers because they are from Russia and the color matched his uniform better, I was told.) After the tour of the house, the family took a carriage ride around the other historic landmarks in Old City.
