HughE Dillon One-Shot: Billie Jean King in Town

The tennis legend checks in on Philadelphia Freedoms Team Tennis

Last Friday, Philadelphia Freedoms owner and tennis icon Billie Jean King came to the Green Valley Country Club in Lafayette Hill for the first-ever match between the Freedoms’ own Josh Cohen (right) and former top-ranked ITF junior Jarrett Chirico (left). Both Cohen and Chirico work at Green Valley as tennis coaches. As junior players, Josh and Jarrett were contemporaries and rivals, vying to be the number-one-ranked American in the world, but never played each other. At Friday night’s event, Billie Jean officially announced Josh Cohen as the new head coach of the Philadelphia Freedoms Team Tennis. The proceeds from the night were given to the WTT/Philadelphia Freedoms Foundation ($5,200). Also in the photo is the Philadelphia Freedoms mascot (left) and Rob Roshkoff, Green Valley’s tennis chairman (center). Chirico won in the third-set tie breaker. The 2012 World Team Tennis Pro League kicks off July 9th.
