School District to Vote on Recommendation to Fire Blogging Central Bucks Teacher

Natalie Munroe made national news when her students—and later everyone else—caught wind of a her blog posts about the kids in her classes. Tonight, the Central Bucks School District is set to vote on the administration’s recommendation to fire Munroe. The administration claims the recommendation is the result of negative evaluations she received this year.

In a 2009 blog post Munroe wrote, “My students are out of control. They are rude, disengaged, lazy whiners.” Now, she thinks the district is retaliating against her and is violating her right to free speech in the process. Munroe claims that the school routinely conducted unannounced observations of her classes and were overly critical in their evaluations. The administration eventually required her to submit daily lesson plans. She filed a lawsuit against the district in U.S. District Court in Philadelphia on Friday alleging as much. [Inquirer]
