Guy Thought About Assassinating Rendell. A man who works as a police officer at a local charter school says that Eddie Savitz—the guy who supposedly molested and photographed a large faction of teenage boys in Philly in the ’70s and ’80s, but died of AIDS in prison before he could be convicted—introduced him to Jerry Sandusky back in 1979 and 1980. He says that Sandusky tried to purchase “his services” for the night for $200. He also says that Savitz was close with many prominent people in the Philadelphia community, including Ed Rendell. The man claims that he contemplated assassinating Ed Rendell over the whole thing.

“I was considering walking up to Ed Rendell and putting a fucking bullet in his head. And you can print that. I stalked him out like a serial killer and I was waiting.”

Warning: the story over at Crossing Broad contains extremely graphic accounts of the man’s alleged abuse at the hands of Savitz. [Crossing Broad]

New, High-Speed Train Stations? If the Northeast Corridor ever gets those high-speed trains everybody’s been talking about recently, Amtrak wants them to run through a new high-speed rail station that would be built east of City Hall on Market Street. The station would also connect to a new high-speed station that would be constructed at the airport. Did that just blow your mind? [Inquirer]

Christie’s GOP Keynote Address. Could the keynote address at the GOP convention in Tampa this month be a turning point for New Jersey Governor Chris Christie? This is the part when we remind you about a certain senator from Illinois who lit the world on fire with a DNC keynote address back in 2004. [Inquirer]

Phils Win 1-0. A leadoff home run by Jimmy Rollins was all the Phils would need as Kyle Kendrick and the bullpen combined to toss a five-hit shutout against the Miami Marlins. [Phillies]
