Todd Akin Won’t Drop Out of Senate Race

Rep. Todd Akin—the Republican Senate hopeful from Missouri who used the phrase “legitimate rape” when discussing pregnancy and abortion issues—reaffirmed, on Tuesday afternoon, his decision to stay in the race. Akin issued a statement clarifying his remarks and apologizing for his word choice. In an interview with Mike Huckabee on Tuesday, Akin said he intends to stay in the Senate race. Many Republican politicians, though, are hoping he drops out before Tuesday’s 5 p.m. deadline. [Washington Post]

UPDATE: Mitt Romney seems to think it’s a bad idea for Akin to stay in the race. He publicly announced that the congressman from Missouri should drop out.
