Poll: President Obama Holds Massive Lead in Philly and Surrounding Suburbs

Poll: Obama Up Big in PA, NJ. A recent Inquirer poll shows that President Obama holds a 14-point lead over Mitt Romney in Jersey to go along with his 11-point lead in Pennsylvania. In Philly and the surrounding counties, President Obama holds a 61-32 lead. [Inquirer]

Jury Selection Set for Drug Kingpin. Kaboni Savage—billed by prosecutors as the most violent drug kingpin in the history of Philadelphia—is set to stand trial for allegedly ordering the murder of 12 people. Jury selection for his trial will begin on September 26th as 250 possible jurors will be called in to fill out a questionnaire. An additional 250 potential jurors will report the next day. Federal prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. [Inquirer]

Red Bull (Kind of) Gives You Wings. More than 30 teams participated in the 2012 Red Bull Flugtag on the Delaware River on Saturday. NEW KIDS ON THE DOCK took home first prize as they and their contraption soared nearly 40 feet before landing in the water. [Red Bull]

Urban Outfitters Uses Phila U. Designers. Two student designers from Philadelphia University were featured at a Fashion’s Night Out event in New York City, as their designs are included in the fall collection from Urban Outfitters. [Newsworks]

More Bikes, Less Accidents. In the past 10 years, the number of bicyclists in Philly has more than doubled. Same with the number of people who commute on bikes. Traffic accidents involving bicyclists, though, have reduced dramatically. Currently, two percent of the city’s population commutes to work on bikes. The city wants to increase that figure to five percent by 2020, while simultaneously cutting the number of accidents in half. [Inquirer]
